Dylan Thornton tackles Dirt Late Model Dream at Eldora
Dylan Thornton made his debut with Cody Sommer and DRT Race Cars over the weekend as the 31st annual Dirt Late Model Dream took center stage at the iconic Eldora Speedway.
Kicking off the week with Wednesday’s FloRacing Night in America miniseries event—a key shakedown for the days ahead—Thornton’s night took an early hit when a broken axle ended his heat race on lap seven. He used his B-Main as a test session, ultimately pulling off before the finish.
Back at the famed half-mile on Friday for his Dream preliminary night, Thornton impressed by outrunning Brandon Overton to win his heat race. He showed early speed in the $30,000-to-win feature, briefly challenging for a top-10 spot before slipping back to 18th following a pair of late-race restarts.
Ranked 25th in overall event points entering Saturday, Thornton was set to start from the third row of his heat race. However, lingering suspension issues hindered his performance, and his attempt to transfer into the $100,000-to-win Dirt Late Model Dream finale came up short in the B-Main.
