Bad luck for Mullens in XR Big Deal

Tanner Mullens competed in the Gopher State for the second consecutive weekend on Friday and Saturday as he sought a $125,000 payday in the XR Big Deal at Ogilvie (Minnesota) Raceway.

The event brought 59 Modifieds to the 3/8-mile clay oval for qualifying and heat races on Friday. Mullens drove his Collins Brothers Towing No. 02 car to the third-quickest time during his group qualifying session. He then elected to start fourth in his heat and finished third, locking him into Saturday’s main event.

Mullens started 10th in the 60-lap feature and had climbed to third with 20 laps to go when his left-rear chain broke, leading to a broken driveshaft. He was ultimately scored 20th in the final rundown with a DNF.
