Blight Dominates!
For the third time in five years, Kye Blight (Kye Blight Racing) has won the preliminary night race of the AFI Towing Late Model Easter Grand Prix at the Albany Speedway Club.
Blight was in a class of his own all night, dominating each race he was in: fastest in qualifying, lapping all but second place in his heat race and crossing the line over twelve seconds ahead of his nearest rival in the A Dash.
In the feature he would start from pole position alongside Joe Chalmers (Team BCM Motorsport:), simply racing away as the race went green and as the laps wound down he would approach traffic.
By just past the halfway point he was on the tail of the fifth and sixth-placed cars of Glynn McBeath and Mat Robbins, able to get by the next lap.
Unfortunately McBeath would then crunch the turn two wall, bringing out the only yellow lights of the race.
Blight lead away the restart, only the front few cars on the lead lap, and again he was able to race away from Chalmers, going on to win by over three and a half seconds from him, while David Nylander (Nylander Motorsport) held on for third.
The biggest issues of the night were Chris Barrow hurting a motor in hot laps, and Jay Bassanelli going upside down in his heat race, but with tonight’s racing a whole new ball game, it will be interesting to see who is able to reset overnight and come out firing in the final!
