Cain Comes Through to Win at Madison

Oregon, WI (May 23rd, 2025) - After a back and fourth Midwest Legends Asphalt Series opener at Madison International Speedway, Lincoln Cain emerged victorious after a hard fought feature event. Cain surged through from an eighth-place starting spot to pick up the win.

Thirteen cars made the trip to the track just minutes from the state capital. Drivers shared an excitement for the inaugural MLAS race, with many excited to start the season off on the right foot.

The first action on track was qualifying. Ryan Laatsch, in his #18 machine, took the top time with a 13.716. Lincoln Cain took the second spot at a 13.855, while Eric Niemi was third with a 13.890. The remainder of the top 5 was rounded out by Dillon Schwanbeck and Jacob Stark, both in the 13.9s.

Heat race one saw Marianna Kubicz come from her 4th starting spot to pick up the win, with Kyle Mitchell hot on her heels in second, and Tyler Edmundson third.

Heat two ended with third-starting Dillon Schwanbeck taking home the win. Jacob Stark and Lincoln Cain battled for the second spot, with Stark coming out in second and Cain bringing home third.

The twenty-lap feature was up and it was Tyler Edmundson on the pole with Alex Kniewel in second. Edmundson got a jump on the initial start, a little too much for race controls liking, and a false start would be called. The second try was better with Edmundson getting the jump, but quickly being dragged back in by Jacob Stark, who took the lead on lap two. The caution flew on lap three, bringing racing to a slower pace. The field got themselves together and got back underway, this time with Eric Niemi jumping to the lead. Lincoln Cain and Dillon Schwanbeck slid by to pick up second and third before Cain made the move on Niemi for the lead in the nick of time, as the caution flew a lap later. Cain restarted from the lead and got a good jump, running away from Schwanbeck and Stark. Schwanbeck caught and passed Cain for the lead and the two went to war. Schwanbeck led the way with Cain trying to find a way around and managed to see one on lap twenty-one. A little bumper to bumper action moved Schwanbeck up the road and Cain slipped through. Cain led the remainder of the way, with Schwanbeck throwing one last Hail Mary attempt on the last lap but was just a little too far back for it to count.

Lincoln Cain picked up the first ever Midwest Legends Asphalt Series win with Dillon Schwanbeck second and Jacob Stark in third. Ryan Laatsch and Eric Niemi fourth and fifth.

The graduate of the MIS Bandolero series, Cain went on to say “It’s awesome to win here at Madison.. in front of everyone I know and love” in victory lane.

The Midwest Legends Asphalt Series is back in action immediately again, with the series making the short trip to Jefferson Speedway on Saturday, May 24th, for the Salute to Troops night. That can be watched live on trackTV.com.
