Felker Continues Consistency During POWRi Doubleheader in Wisconsin

Inside Line Promotions – SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (July 16, 2013) – Andrew Felker and consistency are beginning to become synonymous.

Felker scored two more top 10s during a pair of POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series events to run his impressive total to 20 top-10 finishes in 25 events this season to maintain nearly a 400-point advantage in the championship standings.

“I think we’ve only finished outside the top 10 a couple of times,” he said. “Hopefully we can keep staying consistent. I’m definitely happy with my consistency so far this year.”

Felker opened the weekend on Friday at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis., where he drove from fourth place to challenge for the lead before settling for third place in his heat race.

“The track was kinda rough and choppy,” he said. “I got going on the outside and caught the leader. I made a mistake and jumped the cushion and fell back to third place.”

That lined Felker up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.

“Within the first three laps we got into third,” he said. “I was battling for second and then we had a caution. The heel riser block actually fell out of the car. So I was changing how I used the gas pedal. I just had to get used to it. Rather than lifting my foot up, I had to lift my whole leg up to get it out of the gas.”

Felker dropped to 10th before he adapted and changed his driving style.

“I got going using a diamond move, going high in and coming off the corners low,” he said. “I dug my way back to third. We definitely had a good car. At the end we had a shot to win.”

Felker placed third to earn his 11th top-five finish of the season.

On Saturday, the series – co-sanctioning with the Stark Automotive Group/Mid-State Equipment Badger Midget Series all weekend – tackled Angell Park Speedway, where Felker set quick time during qualifying. That put him at the back of a heat race and he advanced from ninth to seventh.

“In the heat race the track was really one lane, follow the leader,” he said. “I was conservative.

“I got lucky and they only inverted the top four, so I started fifth in the feature.”

Felker ran fourth for most of the first 10 laps before he advanced to third place. Midway through the 30-lap feature he and Brad Kuhn began competing for the final spot on the podium.

“Me and Brad Kuhn were battling, throwing sliders,” Felker said. “I got caught in fourth on a caution. On the restart Kuhn got tight and pushed up the track and we got caught behind him.”

Two cars were able to pass Felker and he finished sixth to record his seventh straight top-10 finish.

Felker is scheduled to compete in the Short Track Micros Nationals on Friday and Saturday at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Ill.
