Felker Forced to the Pits Before Green Flag at Belle-Clair Speedway
Inside Line Promotions – BELLEVILLE, Ill. (Aug. 13, 2013) – It has been an arduous last couple of weeks for Andrew Felker, who has put himself in position to win only to have Lady Luck put her foot down.
The trend of fluke issues returned on Sunday at Belle-Clair Speedway before the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series feature took the green flag.
“Another one of the rough outings,” he said. “The battery went bad. We ran about eight laps under yellow before the race started. They just got done finishing firing everyone off and we were starting to get lined up and that’s when it went bad.
“We were in the middle of the corner and all of a sudden it quit working. I had them push me in the work area to make sure it wasn’t a switch. I had them push me off again and I knew the battery went bad prior to the start.”
Felker was scheduled to start on the outside of the second row for the main event, which he finished 22nd. He entered the feature with the fourth-most points after maneuvering from sixth to third place in a tough heat race.
“I hopped up top and things were going really good,” he said. “I had a really good car. Three of the first four spots (to start the feature) came out of our heat race. We were all up top. I was trying to back up the corner as much as possible. Corner entry was hooked up all night.”
Felker is slated for a trio of POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series this weekend, beginning Friday at Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, Ill. He will then compete on Saturday at Macon Speedway in Macon, Ill., and Sunday at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis.
“We just gotta keep moving forward,” he said. “We’ve had three different races starting in the first two rows DNF before the race even started. We’ve got to keep putting ourselves in that position up front for the features.”
