Felker Earns Top Sevens in Trio of Midget Events in Illinois and Wisconsin

Inside Line Promotions – SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (Aug. 20, 2013) – A trio of top-seven finishes is exactly what Andrew Felker needed after a recent rough patch.

“I actually got to run the races,” he said. “We were real happy with how the weekend went. It was good to get to complete all the laps like we haven’t been able to the last couple of weeks.”

It started on Friday at Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, Ill, for a POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series and Badger Midget Auto Racing Association co-sanctioned event.

Felker claimed his heat race from the pole and started the feature on the outside of the third row.

“The track was pretty good all night,” he said. “I hopped up top at the beginning. I got up top and followed (Bryan) Clauson most of the race. Once you got your momentum up you couldn’t make a move. With two or three laps to go Tanner Thorson slid me in turns three and four and then I got back around him on the last lap to get fourth.”

Felker’s fourth-place finish marked his 13th top five of the season.

The team headed to Macon Speedway in Macon, Ill., on Saturday, when Felker advanced from sixth to fourth place in his heat race at the POWRi/Badger race. That put him on the pole of a B Main, which he won to transfer to the feature at the bullring.

“I was basically dodging cars going high and low,” he said. “I ran most of the race on the cushion. It was about slide jobs every other corner. The key to it is keep your momentum up. Every time you caught a car you had to slide them instantly or you’re going to be getting slid.”

Felker charged from 17th to place seventh.

The weekend concluded on Sunday at Angell Park Speedway as the Honda USAC National Dirt Midget Series joined POWRi and Badger in sanctioning the event.

Felker qualified seventh quickest and maneuvered from fourth place to third in his heat race, which locked him into the feature. After the inversion, Felker started on the pole of the main event.

“I led the first four or five laps until (Zach) Daum showed his nose on the bottom right before a caution,” he said. “I hopped down there to cover the bottom and Clauson and Rico (Abreu) got by us on the outside.

“There was a big cushion in (turns) three and four and basically using the wall in (turns) one and two. On a restart (Darren) Hagen slid us and killed our momentum. I fell back to sixth at the finish.”

It was his 25th top-10 result of the year.

Felker is scheduled to take this weekend off before returning to action on Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Wayne County Speedway in McLeansboro, Ill., for the Jason Leffler Memorial Race.
