Clauson-Marshall Racing Eyes Illinois Triple on Heels of Capturing Indiana Midget Week Crown

Lonnie Wheatley, NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (June 28, 2017) – The Clauson-Marshall Racing team returns to action with a trio of USAC National Midget events this weekend in Illinois, beginning on Saturday night at Macon Speedway before moving on to Lincoln Speedway on Sunday and then Springfield’s Illinois State Fairgrounds Multi-Purpose Arena on Monday.

The CMR trio of Tyler Courtney, Shane Golobic and Justin Grant will certainly carry some momentum into the weekend triple coming off the heels of an ultra-successful Indiana Midget Week earlier this month.

Over the course of USAC’s Indiana Midget Week that included six events at six different tracks from June 6 to June 11, the CMR team picked off a pair of feature wins and finished 1-2 in Indiana Midget Week points with a podium sweep at Bloomington among the highlights.

“Sunshine” Tyler Courtney delivered both of the team’s wins during the week with triumphs in the opening round at Montpelier and then the fourth leg at Bloomington, but it was Shane Golobic coming away with the week’s championship by edging Courtney for the top spot by just six points as Justin Grant finished out the week seventh.

“This is awesome, words don’t describe it,” Fremont, California’s Golobic said after earning the Indiana Midget Week crown aboard the Matt Wood Racing/Clauson-Marshall Racing Elk Grove Ford No. 17w Midget.

Golobic’s week was one of great consistency with five finishes of sixth or better along with an eighth-place Gas City run to make for a 100 percent top-ten rate. Golobic finished it off with his best run of the week, a runner-up finish in the Kokomo finale to edge Courtney for the crown.

“They turned a winged Sprint Car driver into a heckuva Midget racer,” Golobic commented. “To turn someone like me into an Indiana Midget Week champ says a lot about this team.”

Along with his Montpelier and Bloomington wins, Courtney’s week aboard the Driven2SaveLives No. 7bc included podium showings of third at both Putnamville and Kokomo along with a fifth-place run at Lawrenceburg. His only night outside the top five was the team’s lone DNF of the week at Gas City, which proved to be the difference between capturing the title and finishing second in points.

“It’s hard not to be excited,” Courtney said after the finale. “Our team did something pretty special this week. We swept the podium, ran 1-2 in Midget Week points and had two wins this week. I’m happy to be with this CMR team, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”

Ione, California native Justin Grant made his presence known as well over the course of Indiana Midget Week aboard the CMR No. 39bc, racking up three top-five finishes and another pair of seventh-place runs with a runner-up finish in the CMR sweep of the Bloomington podium his top showing of the six-race set.

With the Indiana Midget Week hardware securely in place upon the CMR mantle, the team looks to add more to the collection with this weekend’s USAC National Midget triple in Illinois.

Up Next: USAC National Midgets at Macon (IL) Speedway on Saturday (July 1), Lincoln (IL) Speedway on Sunday (July 2) and Springfield’s Illinois State Fairgrounds Multi-Purpose Arena on Sunday (July 3).
