Starks Bounces Back From Blown Tire at Skagit Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (July 14, 2025) – Trey Starks battled back from a late-race problem for the second straight week at Skagit Speedway last Saturday.
Starks opened the program by setting quick time during qualifying.
“I felt really good in hot laps and in qualifying,” he said. “We ended up going quick time. We finished fourth in the heat race and that put us in the feature redraw. We ended up drawing the pole.
“The track was pretty slick this week, which generally I like. I didn’t get a good start and spun the tires a little more than the guy on the outside. We fell to third on the start. We had a restart with 10 laps in and I got into second. A couple of laps later, entering turn three I hit the cushion a little bit and felt something weird happen. I immediately felt a vibration. It was a big chunk of dirt that came through the wheel cover and knocked the bleeder line off. It’s kind of a fluky deal. It has to hit it just right to get through it.
“It got progressively worse. I think I could have dealt with the initial vibration. I could still maintain speed. With about 10 laps to go the vibration started to get really bad to where I couldn’t run the car very hard. I was set on limping it the rest of the way home. We fell to third because our pace fell off. With about three laps to go the tire finally let go. We went in, got it changed, restarted 12th and fought our way back to seventh.”
The seventh-place result marked the 16th top 10 of the season for Starks, who currently leads the Skagit Speedway championship standings by 37 points.
“We had speed and I think we could have won the race,” he said. “It’s a bummer, but it’s just bad luck. I’d much rather get the bad luck out of the way during a weekly show than the 360 Nationals.”
Starks will take this weekend off before returning to Skagit Speedway on July 25-26 for the Fred Brownfield 360 Nationals presented by Bob’s Burgers & Brew followed by a race at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., on July 27.
