TO THE HEARTLAND: Kubota High Limit Racing Ready for Big Week at Kansas' 81 and Lakeside

After enjoying a weekend off, Kubota High Limit Racing is quickly getting back to business this week.

Kansas' "Sunflower State" is on the agenda with three races in four days bringing us a third Midweek Money Series event and the first of nine races paying $50,000-to-win or more. With 13 races in 31 days, this is the start to the busiest month of 2024 for High Limit.

It begins this Wednesday, May 1 with the third race of the Midweek Money Series coming to 81 Speedway in Park City, KS with a $20,000-to-win, $1,500-to-start purse on the line.

On Friday and Saturday, May 3-4, teams will move on from the Wichita area to the Kansas City area as Lakeside Speedway returns to the spotlight with Kubota High Limit Racing - hosting the $50,000-to-win, $2,000-to-start Shane Stewart's Heartland of America Showdown for the second-straight year.

Here's a few of the top storylines entering this week:

MIDWEEK MASTER: Corey Day's unique partnership between Jason Meyers Racing and Clauson-Marshall Racing has led to downright dominance of the Midweek Money Series thus far. Driving a Driven2SaveLives, Sander Engineering #14BC in the mini-series, the 18-year-old Clovis, CA native has yet to lose when wheeling this scheme.

In the opener, he drove from 7th-to-1st at Oklahoma's Red Dirt Raceway for a boosted $23,500 payday thanks to the DURST Dice Roll. Last week, it was a win from the pole at Arkansas' Riverside International Speedway after he out dueled Tyler Courtney for a $20,000 payday. This Wednesday, he'll go for a third-straight win as he debuts at 81 Speedway in Park City, KS, looking to extend a 19-point lead in the mini-series.

THE FIRST BIG ONE: After promoting the first High Limit race of 2023, future National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Shane Stewart has decided to turn the Heartland of America Showdown into an annual event - making it a two-day race in 2024, coming this Friday and Saturday, May 3-4.

Paying $50,000-to-win, $2,000-to-start at Kansas City's Lakeside Speedway, it's the first of nine races paying $50K or more on the High Limit calendar. In fact, another big one is coming later in May when Pennsylvania's Port Royal Speedway pays a record $75,000-to-win the Bob Weikert Memorial on Saturday and Sunday, May 25-26.

WILKERSON FORGE BONUS: As part of the events he is promoting with High Limit - Red Dirt on 4/16, Lakeside on 5/3-4 - Shane Stewart has announced the Wilkerson Forge Bonus, which pays a $10,000 bonus to the team that earns the most points through those three races.

Entering this weekend, Corey Day (77 PTS) leads Tyler Courtney (-5 PTS), Brent Marks (-9 PTS), Parker Price-Miller (-12 PTS), Justin Peck (-14 PTS), Kyle Larson (-16 PTS), Rico Abreu (-18 PTS), Brad Sweet (-20 PTS), Kasey Kahne (-22 PTS), and James McFadden (-24 PTS).

10-FOR-10: Through the opening 10 races, Brad Sweet and Brent Marks remain perfect in the top-10 category.

For Sweet, the Kasey Kahne Racing, NAPA Auto Parts #49 is averaging a 4.10 finish and currently sits -17 points behind Tyler Courtney for the championship lead. This kind of consistency is exactly what propelled "The Big Cat" to five consecutive World of Outlaws titles and comes as no surprise to Sprint Car fans. The Grass Valley, CA native is already a two-time winner this season with Kubota High Limit Racing.

For Marks, the Murray-Marks Motorsports, McGrew Bid #19 is averaging a 5.40 finish, but still chases his first-career win with Kubota High Limit Racing. He's been the bridesmaid twice this season, finishing 2nd to Courtney at Golden Isles and 2nd to Sweet at Salina. He'll look to snap that streak this weekend as he returns to 81 and Lakeside, where he has finished top-10 at both before with the World of Outlaws.

CHAMPIONSHIP GRIT: While Sweet and Marks are flawless in the top-10 department, it's Tyler Courtney still leading the way for the Kubota High Limit Racing championship. Through the opening 10 races, "Sunshine" has a remarkable 7 podiums with a 3.80 average finish, giving him a 17-point edge at the moment.

The Clauson-Marshall Racing, NOS Energy Drink #7BC still holds the top spot in a large part thanks to the championship grit they displayed last week in Oklahoma. After back-to-back poor Qualifying efforts, Courtney and the gang rallied to earn the Hard Charger Award both nights and still finish inside the top-five to garner crucial points to stay ahead of Sweet, Marks, and Day.

RICO RETURNS: It's been a surprisingly tough start for Rico Abreu, who is competing in his first full-time season chasing a championship with Kubota High Limit Racing. The #24 currently sits seventh in the standings (-148 PTS) with an average finish of 10.00 and only two top-fives to his credit. On the bright side, the St. Helena, CA native is finally heading for a stretch where he is familiar and successful at all of the upcoming tracks.

Abreu has dominated the last two World of Outlaws races at 81 Speedway (2023-24) and legendary crew chief "Tricky" Ricky Warner has actually won four-straight at the Park City, KS oval with wins also coming from Donny Schatz in 2007 and 2006. As far as Lakeside, Abreu appeared to be cruising home for a $50,000 payday at the Kansas City track last year with High Limit when a flat tire cost him the win. Look for this to potentially be the biggest weekend of Abreu's young tenure as a full-time High Roller.

CHARTER CHANGES: The Shark Racing #1A and CJB Motorsports #5 have been swapping the fifth and final High Stakes Charter back-and-forth almost every night lately. It's a battle that extends well beyond them, though, with seven teams currently within 70 points for that all-important fifth spot in the standings.

Spencer Bayston's CJB #5 currently holds the spot ahead of Jacob Allen's Shark #1A (-18 PTS), Rico Abreu's #24 (-24 PTS), Parker Price-Miller's #9P (-49 PTS), James McFadden's Roth #83 (-53 PTS), Zeb Wise's Rudeen #26 (-67 PTS), and Justin Peck's Buch #13 (-69 PTS).
