Pozsgai wins Grundy Co Finale!

MWR’s Max Pozsgai captured the final feature in the Illini Racing Series 2016 Grundy County Speedway schedule. Teammate Patrick Bruns added the special Grundy track championship to his impressive resume with a heat race win and 4th place in the feature.

Eleven cars competed on a beautiful fall night with Bob Sheffler setiing the fastest time in qualifying. This was Bob’s first quick time win of his entire career and comes three weeks after #21 left Grundy on a hook following that massive turn four crash on the Night of Features. Pozsgai’s feature winning ride was fresh off the MWR frame table due to that same wreck. Lots of people can build fast race cars but it takes real craftsmen to repair wrecks and win with them.

The second heat went to Jason Allen in the Spenser Racing #24 over Jordon Caskey in the #3 Spenser Racing entry. Caskey traded places throughout the heat with the legendary Johnny Heyedreich; quite a feat for a youngster in his first season in midgets. National midget vet Kyle Hamilton made his Illini debut subbing for Erica Ensor who moved up to the National class for the night. He enjoyed his first foray into the “skinny tire” wars with a heat race battle with Max Pozsgai . Kyle got second place behind Patrick Bruns in the first heat.
The feature was marred by two first lap crashes. Bruns and Allen got together in the middle of turns one and two with the throttle body getting knocked off #24. Just ahead of them the lead pack saw the yellow light and had varying reaction times. Leader Caskey was clear but Heydereich flipped over Koerner bringing out the red flag. #24, #55, and #83 did not return to action. No driver injuries were reported.

Caskey held point on the restart but gave way to Pozsgai. #3 and #21 couldn’t catch the ?#?10c? while Hamilton and Bruns battled behind them. Bruns won that battle dropping #16 to 5th place.

The series closes out the 2016 season with a 50 lapper in Rockford
