Bad luck strikes DeCaire and Lopez at Ace
After two forgettable weekends with the zMAX CARS Tour in April, Bryson Lopez Racing (BLR) hoped to start May strong in the series’ stop at Altamahaw, North Carolina’s Ace Speedway. However, the team suffered multiple DNFs in the Pro Late Model portion of the Folsom Fence Supply 275 on Saturday.
BLR brought a pair of cars to the 0.400-mile oval, with T.J. DeCaire piloting the team’s No. 47 Chevrolet SS to the fourth-quickest time in qualifying. Brandon Lopez qualified his No. 6 LeeBoy Chevrolet fifth in the 10-car field.
As weather threatened, Lopez fell out of the 100-lap feature on lap 14 with a mechanical issue. Just a lap later, DeCaire was caught up in a multi-car crash while running in the top five when a competitor laid down fluid. Ultimately, DeCaire was credited with an eighth-place result in the rain-shortened event, while Lopez came home 10th.
Despite the team’s recent struggles, Lopez sits fifth in the zMAX CARS Tour Pro Late Model point standings.
