Young Driver uses Racing as a Way to Give Back

Following the death of a fellow driver, Jeff Osborn, during a race in 2012, 15 year old Tyler Nelson was inspired to use his racing career as a vehicle to give back the the community.

He donated his purse that night to the Osborne family and organized a fundraiser to raise another $2400 for the family. He decided to take it further and started a 501c3 Foundation, KCKidsonTrack.org to keep his project going. The mission if KC Kids on Track is to help others and as an Official Spokesperson for the Boys & Girls Clubs, he regularly donates his time mentoring at-risk youth at local clubs.

His story of growing up in a home with parents struggling with addiction resonates with the youth, but his message not letting you past define your future is the real lesson. "Have a dream and work to achieve it." says Tyler. "Having the dream is more important than how much of it you might achieve."

Tyler's dream is to make a career of racing. At the age of 17 as a Senior at Olathe South High School in Olathe, KS, he's become a local favorite at his local track, Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, MO. And his recent Rookie performance and the Annual Chili Bowl Nationals in Tulsa, OK has proven that he is capable of competing with some of the best drivers in Midget racing.

Recently, Tyler Nelson Racing set up a Go Fund Me account so that others could make tax deductible contributions to the mission of KCKidsonTrack.org. To help: visit http://gofundme.com/checkeredflag
