Waz Back In Form!

After being absent from the top of the Perth Motorplex podium for a longer then normal period in recent years, Warren Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) has bounced back in a big way, recording his third podium in as many Motorplex shows, and his second feature race win in a row at the venue.

Warren and brother Jamie would claim the opening round heat wins while the second round saw Joe Chalmers (Team BCM Motorsport:) and Luke Halliday (Halliday Racing) recording the victories, Warren recording a second to Chalmers which was enough to score himself a pole position start in the thirty-lap feature alongside the impressive Halliday.

The first attempt at a start was abandoned after David Nylander (Nylander Motorsport) found himself facing the wrong way in turn one, while the second attempt was better, Warren able to shoot unto the lead while Jamie used the highline to get around Halliday for second.

Jamie set out after Warren, the front duo pulling away as Halliday came under pressure from Australian Champion Chalmers, Rod Musarra (Team Rocket) and Brad Blake.

Just as Jamie was looking to make his move the yellows came on after Damian Hudson (Hudson Racing Team) found himself coming to a stop facing the wall in turn two.

Warren led away the restart, Jamie went with him and Chalmers did all he could to get under Halliday, making it work coming out of turn four to take third on lap three.

Chalmers would then set out after Jamie, closing in on him, just 0.033 seconds behind on lap seven and 0.029 seconds behind on lap eight. The duo would actually close in on Warren in this time, and Chalmers took the bull by the horns as traffic began to play its part, going high and taking second on lap ten.

Unfortunately, the yellow lights would come on shortly after when David Nylander and Jay Cardy (Cardy Racing Components) tangled, Nylander finishing his night on the infield while Blake, who was running in sixth at the time, also retired infield under the cautions.

Warren was now under pressure from Chalmers while Jamie was holding off Halliday. Warren held strong over Chalmers and Jamie was able to pull away in third as Halliday came under pressure from a pile of cars led by Tasmanian Brad Smith (Brad Smith Devil Motorsports 6T), while Ken Macpherson (KMM - Ken Macpherson Motorsport) and Musarra were just behind.

The lead duo of Warren and Joe would pull away at this point, fighting through lapped traffic but the order not changing. The gap back to Jamie had widened, with Halliday now leading Macpherson and Musarra in the battle for fourth.

As the laps wound down the gap between the front runners would constantly change as Warren would get held up by a lapped car and then Joe would catch up, only for Joe to then get caught up and Warren pulled away again.

With eight to go the yellows came out again as Peter Seaton (Peter Seaton Racing) ended up facing the wrong way after contact with Veronica McCann (Veronica McCann - Red Hot Racing), Freddy Kinsella (Team Green Racing) lucky not to do more damage when he was left with nowhere to go.

Fourteen cars would resume, with Warren again able to hold off Joe and Jamie, Musarra applying the blowtorch to Halliday, but unable to make the pass.

With a handful of laps to go, Warren broke free of Joe, who began to fall into the clutches of Jamie, who did everything he could to get by Joe in the final two laps, but ultimately came up just short, Warren officially claiming he win from Joe with Jamie in third while Halliday and Musarra rounded out the top five.

The win was Warren’s twenty sixth at the Motorplex venue, his third this season and his thirty-second Pro Dirt Series feature victory, and the exciting part is, he has even more chances to build up his resume (as does everyone else!) with the next show scheduled for just three days time as part of the exciting High Limit International shows at the Perth Motorplex!
