Late Model Racing Western Australia
LITTLE BY LITTLE
Casey Paech has been testing the waters of Late Model racing for the last year or so, and this season he takes the next step as he looks to get to more shows and make more of an impact.
Last season the former state Production Sedan champion was planning on doing a few more shows but things didn’t quite work out due to work commitments, so this time around he is keen to hit the track on more occasions.
“We had plans for last season but it didn’t quite come off” says Casey. “This season we are hoping to get in a few more because the work situation has changed a bit. Work and play is always a juggling act and work has to come before play because it pays the bills!”
Casey has already nominated for this weekends Ray Tulk Memorial, Pro Dirt Series opener, and after coming sixth in the same event last year, his confidence is right where it needs to be.
“We were consistent in the three Winter Series shows we did this season” says Casey. “We would have loved to do a few more and increase the laps under the belt, but in such a stellar field we were happy to run sixth and would love to do that again on Saturday.”
After the Ellenbrook show Casey will update the panels and launch a slightly updated paint scheme in readiness for the rest of the season where he is planning to get to as many shows as they can this season, with a focus on making the State and National Titles.
“We are still learning about the car, so top ten finishes would be a great result at the meetings we contest” says Casey. “These things are so complex and I still haven’t completely got my head around them, but we have had some great help behind us as we make the changes we need.”
Casey refers to the help from friends (and sponsors) the Oldfield family, who he credits with helping him get back into the sport after ten years out of the seat.
“I am just humbled by all the support they have given me” says Paech. “As I try to find my feet, they are helping me so much and I am truly appreciative.”
Paech will continue to campaign his 2013 Rocket, making the more than 800km round trip from Geraldton for each show.
“We try to put the good tires on and present the car nicely for the sponsors at each show” says Casey. “It sure has been out of the frying pan and into the fire though, because coming from a Sigma into these things is a massive change, but little by little we will keep plugging away and moving forward!”
