LOCAL HOPE!
There is no doubt that when it comes to the local Esperance and Kalgoorlie Late Model racing scene, Mat Robbins (Robbins Motorsport ) is a serious contender.
This season alone he already has one feature race win at each track, while last year he came home with four main event wins (three at Esperance and one at Kalgoorlie), his ex-Kye Blight machine really giving him some get up and go!
“We did initially struggle with some engine dramas,” says Mat, “cracking a piston in our open motor, then breaking a rod in our brand new crate motor at the first meeting, so we just had a reset: we re-bodied the car, updated the wrap and purchased another 525. Since then, the first three meetings we have done have been nice and consistent, which we hope to see follow into the Pro Dirt rounds!”
Mat is definitely excited to test himself against the quality of fields that only the Pro Dirt Series can bring, and will be using this weekend as a measuring stick for the rest of his scheduled plans.
“As far as our season plans, well so far we have just been going weekend by weekend, trying to find where we are at with the new car. As for the calendar, once we get through the two Pro Dirt rounds in Kal and Esperance this weekend we will look into the calendar and determine which way we go. If we are somewhat competitive, we will try and prioritise to contest more Pro Dirt rounds!”
This weekends events have attracted some quality fields, and with racing at Kalgoorlie Friday and Esperance Saturday, Mat is as prepared as he can be!
“Fingers crossed as we are really just looking to have a good run with the Pro Dirt guys and finish all our races!”
This is a huge weekend coming up for the Late Models, so be sure to get your backside trackside at both Kalgoorlie International Speedway and Tyres & More Esperance Speedway this weekend!
