WORTHINGTON, Minn. – For the final weekend of his local racing schedule in 2014, Trey Thesenvitz made the trip south to Raceway Park in Jefferson, SD on Friday night, followed up by a night of run-what-ya-brung micro sprint action at Worthington, MN’s Nobles County Speedway, where he secured his first career micro sprint feature win in 2011.

Friday night’s show started off on the right foot, quite literally, as Thesenvitz kept his throttle wide open in hot laps and heat race action. A “6” in pill draw was good enough for pole position in his heat race. A good jump on the start for the car starting outside row two earned the heat win, with Thesenvitz settling for second.

Second place in the heat qualified him for the redraw, where he got a bit of bad luck. He pulled “8,” meaning he’d start the feature race outside row four for the 20-lap affair that included 22 cars. The track stayed heavy all night long, making passing somewhat difficult for most of the competitors. Thesenvitz was one of the more active cars; he laid the hammer down when the green dropped and got past two cars on the start, then threw a well-timed slidejob around the halfway point to reach the top-five. He then turned his attention to fourth, entering a spirited battle that lasted six laps, finally taking the position around the high side with four laps remaining. Thesenvitz attempted to run down the top-three, but ran out of laps before he could make it happen.

Saturday night saw 25 micro sprints signing in at Nobles County Speedway, with preliminary action proving similar to Friday’s for Thesenvitz: the #53 Sawyer/Yamaha fast in hot laps, starting pole of a heat race, but the car second on the grid getting a better start and Thesenvitz capturing a second-place finish.

The redraw would put the Jasper, MN native starting even further back than on Friday night, receiving the ninth starting spot for the scheduled 20-lapper. Thankfully, the track conditions were a lot more conducive for passing than at the previous night’s event. Thesenvitz made it through the field in expert fashion, corralling three cars on the first lap, then picking off cars one-by-one; he eventually made it to the runner-up spot at what should have been the halfway point. However, the flagman reached for his white flag soon after, and displayed it with 14 laps in the books. The race's time limit had been reached due to several lengthy cautions. 15 laps simply wasn’t enough time to reel in the outside polesitter, and Thesenvitz was forced to settle one spot short of a feature win, completing a hard-charging effort regardless.

Thesenvitz would like to thank MerchLane, Performance One, Speedshack Performance, and Kustom Colors, as well as his family, his crew chief Scuba Steve, and all of his great fans for their continued support.

Thesenvitz next plans to compete on October 9-11 in Sweet Springs, MO, for Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex’s annual “Show-Me Showdown” in the #53 600cc micro sprint entry.
