Sanders notches NLMS podium result on Gopher 50 weekend
Rodney Sanders raced at Spring Valley, Minnesota’s Deer Creek Speedway over the Independence Day holiday and brought home a best finish of third with the USRA Kevko Racing Northern Lights Modified Series (NLMS).
On Thursday, Sanders was part of a 38-car field competing in the Modified portion of the program on the first night of the famed Gopher 50. He drove his Keith Hammett Trucking & Construction No. 20 Modified to fourth in his heat race on the 3/8-mile track, then started ninth and finished 11th in the 25-lap feature.
Thirty-eight NLMS competitors descended on Deer Creek again on Friday. Sanders won his heat race from the pole and started third in the 25-lap main event. He also finished in the third spot, taking the checkered flag behind Brandon Davis and Jim Chisholm. Dustin Sorenson and Josh Angst completed the top five.
Saturday’s slated Gopher 50 finale was washed out.
After five events in 2025, Sanders sits third in the NLMS point standings.
