Four Wins for Lupton in 2011

Dylan Lupton found his way into victory lane for the fourth time in his High Point Racing late model at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. The win marked Lupton’s seventh consecutive top five finish and showed the continued improvement and success of the young driver. With Rookie of the Year honors on the line, Dylan has put the pedal to the metal as the 2011 season enters the final stages.

Lupton was coming into August 20th with a pair of second place finishes in the last two races. Also on his plate was the K&N Pro West Series race in Montana where Lupton drove a smart race that earned him respect from competitors in the upper division. With the momentum flowing, Saturday’s race was already looking promising for Dylan. The car unloaded strong for the #56 team and signs of a good night were seen in practice where Lupton was third fastest. The Rookie of the Year contender followed that up with a second place qualifying effort behind HPR teammate Brandon Davis. With a three car invert, Lupton was set to start on the outside of row one.

The green flag flew and Dylan quickly settled into second behind an experienced late model driver and former High Point Racing late model champion, Rod Johnson Jr. As the laps continued on, Lupton concentrated on holding off his fast teammate in the #55 and catching the #03 leading the way. A bizarre incident on lap 19 saw Johnson’s tire literally explode going down the backstretch, shearing the roof clean off the car and leaving nothing but roll cage. While RJ was alright, his car was done and the lead was handed over to Lupton.

From that point on, Dylan led the way all the way to the checkered flag and brought home his fourth win in the Auto Club Late Model division and on top of the Rookie standings. Now sitting second in overall series points, Dylan will have some work to do in order to catch Brandon Davis for the championship.
