Lupton looking for success in Doubleheader
WILTON, CALIFORNIA (June 5, 2013) – 19 year-old NASCAR K&N Pro Series, West rookie Dylan Lupton will look to continue his strong start in the series, with a doubleheader on tap this weekend at Iowa Speedway and Missouri's I-44 Speedway. Lupton is driving the #9 Lupton Excavation / Sunrise Ford #9 entry for Bob Bruncati in this year's series.
This weekend's events will be one of the most important for the young driver with two separate points paying races. A big weekend could set up a possible championship run for the rookie, who finds himself sixth in the standings but just 27 points out of first.
Lupton made his road course debut two weeks ago at Brainerd International Raceway in Minnesota for round three of the NASCAR K&N West Series. Despite having no road course experience, Lupton practiced fourth fastest and timed in seventh during time trials. Early in the event, the #9 car slipped back out of the top-ten but made a recovery to run fifth by the first pit stop for fuel.
When the leaders cycled through for their stops, Lupton found himself in the second position. On the final restart of the afternoon, Lupton was running fifth before being spun. The race stayed green forcing Lupton to make a charge through the field. The charge from the back proved fruitful as he was able to find his way all the way back to fourth at the finish for a huge points day.
The recovery was attributed to the great car that Lupton was provided by the Sunrise Ford crew.
"Jeff Schrader, Bill Sedgwick, and all the crew guys in the Sunrise Ford Racing shop have been working their butts off and gave me a great car today, which made my first road course race way easier on my part," Lupton said. "We had to battle through adversity today, but we were able to rally back to a great top five finish that we can build on for races to come."
The finish gives Lupton momentum heading into the toughest stretch of the schedule, where the series will race twice this weekend, then in two weeks race on the road course at Sonoma Raceway.
Friday, the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and West will duel at the 7/8ths mile Iowa Speedway. Lupton will be making his first career start at the series' fastest track and most prestigious points race. On Sunday, the West Series will run a standalone event at I-44 Speedway in Lebanon, MO. The race will be the debut for the series in Missouri and the speedway is a 3/8ths mile bullring said to resemble Las Vegas.
On June 22, Lupton and the Sunrise Ford squad will hit the 1.99 mile Sonoma Raceway road course during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekend.
