Thompson charges to Park Jefferson victory

Cody Thompson scored his first feature triumph of the year on Friday night with a stellar run in the IMCA Modified class on Park Jefferson Speedway’s Park Jeff Thrills night.

With 17 Modifieds on the property at the quarter-mile track in North Sioux City, South Dakota, Thompson finished sixth in one of two heat races aboard his Team Harris Auto Racing No. 25c. He began the 20-lap A-Main from the 12th starting spot and claimed the lead on lap 11. He showed the way for the remainder of the race and took the checkered flag 1.058 seconds ahead of Jim Cole. Brandon Beckendorf, Ricky Stephan and Chris Abelson rounded out the top five.

Double features were part of the program for the IMCA Modifieds at Park Jefferson, as the lights went out at the track after heat races in the Season Opener Sizzle three weeks ago. Thompson started 10th in the makeup feature and turned in an impressive charge, advancing eight spots to take second in the 20-lapper. He followed Beckendorf across the start-finish line, with Shawn Harker finishing third. Bob Moore and Shane DeMey came home fourth and fifth, respectively.
