Jon Mitchell races to CCSDS top-10 finishes at Arrowhead and Batesville
The COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) swung through Oklahoma and Arkansas on Friday and Saturday to continue its mid-summer stretch. Jon Mitchell claimed a top-10 finish in each state driving his Keyser Manufacturing Co. No. 5 Super Late Model.
With a $5,000 winner’s share up for grabs on Friday at Colcord, Oklahoma’s Arrowhead Speedway, Mitchell was one of 28 CCSDS competitors on hand. He qualified with the second-quickest time around the 1/3-mile track and won his heat race from the pole. He started second in the 30-lap feature and finished ninth.
On Saturday, the $5,000-to-win Ed Rinehart Memorial at the 3/8-mile Batesville Motor Speedway in Locust Grove, Arkansas, filled the pits with 23 CCSDS Late Models. Mitchell was again strong early, qualifying fifth overall. He both started and finished second in his heat, putting him fifth on the grid to begin the 30-lap A-Main. He ran in the top five early and ultimately registered a seventh-place result.
Mitchell, the 2012 series champion, is currently tied for fourth in the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series point standings.
