12th-place finish in Knoxville Nationals preliminary

Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) competition resumed on Thursday with Ross Robinson and 39 Super Late Models invading Knoxville (IA) Raceway for the 20th annual Knoxville Nationals.

After outrunning Jonathan Davenport in his 12-lap heat race, Robinson was on the unfortunate end of the invert as he was scheduled to start the feature in 18th. With a $7,000 preliminary payday up for grabs, Ross rolled to an 18th-place finish.

Improving in Friday’s feature, Ross backed up a fourth-place heat showing with a 12th-place finish in the 25-lap prelim.

Locked on the eighth row for Saturday night’s $50,000-to-win Knoxville Nationals finale, Robinson was an early retiree from the rain-delayed 75-lapper on lap 40.
