Chase Junghans Claims Grant Junghans Memorial Prelim at Lakeside Speedway
World 100 Weekend at Eldora Speedway Up Next
MANHATTAN, Kan. (8/12/24) – Chase Junghans scored an emotional win on Thursday night as he drove to Victory Lane in the Grant Junghans Memorial opener at Lakeside Speedway aboard his Junghans Motorsports / CJR Motors / Bozard Ford Lincoln No. 18 Modified.
The Manhattan, Kansas driver soared into the lead on the second circuit and paced the remainder of the 22-lap prelim to claim his first win of the season and a $2,222 payday in the race that honored his late brother.
“It’s pretty cool to get this win and enjoy it with my family,” Junghans said. “This entire event is very special to my family and to get to celebrate in Victory Lane with them makes it even better. I want to thank everyone who helped put this race on in honor of my brother and all my sponsors who help out on my race team.”
Chase Junghans hopped behind the wheel of his No. 18 Modified on Thursday evening at Lakeside Speedway (Kansas City, Kan.) to compete in the eighth annual Grant Junghans Memorial.
Amassing 35 United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) entries for a pair of prelims to kick off the doubleheader event, Junghans raced his way into his preliminary feature with a third-place finish in his heat race. Lined up on the front row of the 22-lapper, Chase blasted ahead of Tanner Mullens on the second circuit and dominated the rest of the way to secure the $2,222 preliminary payday.
Junghans’ 6.150-second margin of victory marked his first win of the 2024 campaign.
Back at the 4/10-mile Kansas oval on Friday, Chase went ninth-to-fifth in his heat but had to use a track provisional after getting docked to the tail of his B-Main. Starting the $12,002-to-win Grant Junghans finale in 27th, Junghans was an early retiree from the 42-lap affair on lap 14.
