Kaden Honeycutt takes North Wilkesboro victory
The last time Kaden Honeycutt competed at North Wilkesboro Speedway with Bryson Lopez Racing (BLR), he won the race and the zMAX CARS Tour Pro Late Model championship. On Thursday, he went back-to-back with the CARS Tour at the historic facility in Wilkes County, North Carolina, as he claimed victory in the Reverend Sour Mash Whiskey 75. The triumph once again came behind the wheel of a BLR Pro Late Model.
Honeycutt qualified on the pole in the strong 29-car field, turning in a lap of 17.646 seconds around the 5/8-mile oval in his No. 47 Atlanta Paving & Concrete Construction Chevrolet SS. His teammate Brandon Lopez qualified 12th in his No. 6 LeeBoy Chevy.
Honeycutt dominated the $5,000-to-win feature, but he was forced to hold off a furious charge from Dawson Sutton in the race’s closing laps as Honeycutt navigated lapped traffic. He took the checkered flag 0.368 seconds ahead of Sutton, with Keelan Harvick, Spencer Davis and Josh Berry rounding out the top five.
Lopez was caught up in a multi-crash at the initial drop of the green flag. However, the BLR team made repairs and he soldiered on to finish 10th.
After the North Wilkesboro event, Lopez sits fifth in the CARS Tour Pro Late Model point standings.
