Oakley Johns heads home early from Dirt Late Model Dream; Top-10 in Bama 100 finale at Xtreme Speedway
Oakley Johns kicked off the week by making the long haul to Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) on Wednesday evening to kick off 31st-running of the Dirt Late Model Dream with a $20,000-to-win FloRacing Night in America show.
Among a huge 85-car field, Johns qualified towards the back of his stacked group and finished 12th in his heat race. Oakley was unable to make up ground in his B-Main and recorded a DNF.
Slated to compete in the first preliminary night, Oakley qualified 17th-fastest in his group but fell backwards in his heat race. Buried in a B-Main, the team decided to call it a week and head back to the shop early.
Oakley made one stop on the way home, competing at Xtreme Speedway (Moulton, Ala.) on Saturday afternoon in the Bama 100 finale.
Picking up a heat race win, Johns started shotgun on the field in the 60-lap, $6,000-to-win feature but had a mechanical issue less than 10 laps in. Oakley recovered to record a Top-10 finish in eighth.
