Midwest Legends Asphalt Series
Redemption for Schwanbeck at Jefferson
Cambridge, WI (May 24th, 2025) - After finishing second in a disappointing finish in his opinion the night before at the season opener in Madison, Dillon Schwanbeck made the trip to Jefferson Speedway with the Midwest Legends Asphalt Series with a clear conscience and the same quick car. He proved that the second place would not define him as he picked up his first MLAS win of the season.
Twenty-nine cars made the trip on the night to the Salute to Troops night. Schwanbeck led the way in qualifying with a 15.341, the 2023 Jefferson track champion flying. Jackson Lewis, the 2024 Midwest Legends Dirt Series champion, was second with a 15.401, Cael Slater was third at a 15.456, with the previous night's winner, Lincoln Cain, fourth at a 15.509, and finally, Devon Lee fifth at a 15.521.
Heat races were up next with a chaotic finish of heat one going to Tyler Edmundson, with Mark Wellman and Michael Sina third. Heat two went to Caleb Baumgart, while Alexander Kniewel and Colin Murphy rounded out the top three. Heat three went to Lewis with Cain and Jacob Stark behind. The final heat of the night went to Schwanbeck with Ryan Laatsch and Slater second and third.
The last chance race went to Baumgart with Murphy, Edmundson, and Kniewel all going to the feature a little bit later on in the night.
The feature pulled onto the track for the second ever MLAS race, with Art Hahn and Carter Stein holding down the front row. Hahn got the better of the start and pulled away while cars battled behind. Kasey Korsmo surged through for second quickly and brought Laatsch with him for third. The field battled behind while Korsmo ran down Hahn for the lead. Cain moved past Laatsch for third and Schwanbeck followed him through. Schwanbeck worked by Cain and then made quick work of Korsmo for the second spot. Cain and Slater worked by Korsmo for the third and fourth spot, but attention quickly turned up front. With a run out of turn two, Schwanbeck pulled along and passed Hahn for the lead ten laps in. Lewis, seemingly from nowhere, pounced and moved into third, chasing down Hahn, and getting by thirteen laps in. Slater got past Hahn on lap fifteen as Hahn began to fall many positions. Schwanbeck navigated lapped traffic well, keeping a consistent gap to Lewis the entire way. Slater began to catch Lewis near the end of the race but did not get there in time.
Out front, Dillon Schwanbeck ran into the night, picking up his first MLAS win of the season after coming up short the night prior. Jackson Lewis came home second with Cael Slater third.
The Midwest Legends Asphalt Series returns to action on the last day of May, the 31st, at Dells Raceway Park for the first time in 2025.
