Bartlett Breaks Through, Eisele Wins at Home—Can-Am Rolls Into a Father’s Day Weekend

It was another great night of racing at the Can Am Speedway this past Friday night with the crew members getting their chance to shine in special mechanics races after the regular card of racing. Mental Health Association of Jefferson County was on hand as the featured non-profit on the night along with a great crowd on a cool evening.

It had been nearly three seasons since Ryan Bartlett went to victory lane in the Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTcar 358 Modifieds. On this night he started up front and was in total control of the entire event. Some of the top point runners including Lance Willix and Tim Fuller made a late charge at the end, but Bartlett’s new chassis and motor combination proved to be a perfect match on this night as he scored his first win of the season over Willix and Fuller.

The phrase at the start of the night by Gavin Eisele was, “I want to win at home finally!” In the 20 lap Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTcar Sportsman feature Eisele made a charge forward in the early laps and ran down race leader Paul DeRuyter. On lap 8 Eisele took over the lead and put his car on auto pilot, building up over a straight away lead at the finish. When the checkered flew it was Gavin Eisele winning for the first time at Can Am since July of 2023 with Richard Murtaugh grabbing his third runner up finish of the season over Kingston Ontario’s Jessica Power, who made some big moves to come home third.

Earlier in the night George Sanford was officially presented with his first career Panther Frameworx Crate Sprint Car feature win from May 30th, after initial winner Jon Liberty’s car failed post race tech inspection. Liberty, in a show of sportsmanship, presented the trophy with a firm handshake at Sanford’s pit stall early in the night. It was Sanford’s first win since he won a Pure Stock feature on July 1st of the 2000 season at Can Am. In the regular scheduled feature, another first time winner emerged. Nick Webb made the jump from the 358 Modifieds and has been solid in his rookie campaign. Webb would dominate the 20 lap feature for his first career win. Tiger Chapman and Andrew Hennessy completed the podium.

Patrick Kudrinko has been making the rounds to local race tracks in the Northeast and looked strong in the early laps of the 12 lap Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman feature. Kudrinko took the lead early and was in control but Caleb Howard was on the move and looking for his first ever win. Howard put all the pressure on the Canadian driver, but Patrick Kudrinko would hold on for his first ever Can Am win with Howard and Mason Rogers competing the top three.

Tony Frezzo was looking to get his season going in the right direction in the Sundance Leisure Thundercar division last Friday night. He took the lead early and had a fast car, however two other drivers were ready to challenge. Corey Valade and Anthony St Mary Jr. gave Frezzo all he could handle in the final laps, but the 2021 champion held on to score his first win of the year over Valade and St. Mary.

In the Mechanics races, Blue Lashue would take home honors in the Thundercars, while Brian McConnell was the winner in the Sportsman feature.

This weekend it may be Friday the 13th but it’s the annual Father’s Day Special at Can Am presented by Howland Pump and Supply with featured non-profit, Community Action Planning Council of Jefferson County-Child Care Resource Center on hand.

Gates open at 5pm with the first green flag flying at 7pm.
