Tim Sears Jr. edges Chad Phelps in Fulton Thriller
By Hannah Doll
FULTON, NY (May 20, 2024)- With a near photo finish during the Tracey Road DIRTcar Modified Feature, Tim Sears Jr. emerged victorious by mere inches, holding off Chad Phelps in a drag race down the front stretch. Saturday night's event, presented by RVMD Service, Repair, and Parts and Ferris Mowers, had fans on the edge of their seats from start to finish, with side-by-side racing capped off by crunching metal and chaos from Demo Derbies.
Other winners included Jason Parkhurst Jr. (DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman), Adam Hunt (Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux Hobby Stock), and Brian Harber (E & V Energy Novice Sportsman).
Tim Harris and Sean Beardsley led the headline Tracey Road DIRTcar Modified field to green and Beardsley quickly took the advantage, but a four-car pileup in turn one on lap one brought out the first caution. Multiple cars were in the mishap with Billy Dunn sustaining race-ending damage.
Upon the restart, Beardsley pulled away with the lead while three wide battles for position unfolded behind him. Beardsley would consistently maintain a five-car length lead but would have that erased as the second caution on lap 12 tightened the field once more. Beardsley would maintain his lead until lap 23, as Chad Phelps moved around Beardsley, taking over the top spot. Meanwhile, 16th starter Tim Sears Jr. was making a charge through the top five, setting the stage for an exhilarating ending.
With laps winding down, Sears Jr. set the scene for a dramatic conclusion, trying every line possible to get around Phelps. An outside move in turns three and four set the stage for a photo finish, with Sears Jr. edging out Phelps by inches at the line. Chad Phelps secured a hard-fought second place, with early race leader Sean Beardsley rounding out the top three. Alan Fink finished fourth, and Dylan Zacharias claimed the fifth spot.
Jason Parkhurst, Jr. picked up his first DOT Foods Sportsman win of the season after a close battle with second-place finisher Joe Kline. Clayton Brewer III would come in third, with Kyle Devendorf and Emmett Waldron rounding out the top 5.
?Adam Hunt crossed the finish line victorious, picking up his first-ever Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux Hobby Stock feature event. Holding off John Pietrowicz for the win. Shawn Doucette, Brennan Fitzgibbons, and Brandon Barron rounded out the top 5.
Another first-time winner, Brian Harber, picked up the E & V Energy Novice Sportsman feature. Harber battled lap after lap with second-place finisher Belle Hogan. Austin Harmer, James Galarneau, and Andrew Eaton rounded out the top five.
