Strong outing in Prairie Dirt Classic weekend; pair of Top-10 finishes in main events
Before getting to the Prairie Dirt Classic, Brian Shirley made a pitstop at Davenport (Iowa) Speedway on Monday afternoon for the first of two nights with the XR Super Series.
Finishing third in his heat race, Shirley started 10th in the $15,000-to-win main event but made one lap and pulled off early. He was scored 20th.
The following night's event was lost after heavy rain showers blasted the facility.
As 65 Super Late Models descended upon Fairbury (Ill.) Speedway on Wednesday afternoon, Shirley laid down the second-fastest lap in his group before earning a spot in the Castrol FloRacing Night in America main event with a runner-up heat finish. Starting ninth with $20,000 on the line, Brian made up four spots to score a Top-5 finish in fifth.
Fresh off a strong run at the track, Shirley kicked off his Prairie Dirt Classic weekend by laying down the fourth-quickest lap in his group which earned him a front-row starting position in his $5,000 showdown feature. Brian took the top spot early in the main event and led 24-laps until he was passed by Brandon Sheppard on the final. Shirley was forced to settle for runner-up.
Locked into the $50,000-to-win main event, Shirley raced amongst the leaders and ran as high as second before dropping to seventh when the checkered flag flew.
