World of Outlaws Kickstart Summer with Stops at I-55, Independence

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: World of Outlaws Kickstart Summer with Stops at I-55, Independence

CONCORD, NC (June 17, 2025) – The World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series presented by DIRTVision returns to action with 24 nights of racing in the next 10 weeks, starting with two nights at I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park.

The St. Louis Firecracker Faceoff kicks off the big money stretch, with a $12,000-to-win opener on Friday, June 20, and a $20,000-to-win finale on Saturday, June 21, alongside the DIRTcar Summer Nationals. Following a travel day on Sunday, the Series will race for $12,000 on Monday, June 23, during the second annual visit to Independence Motor Speedway.

The Late Models will be joined by the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota and the DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals at I-55, while IMCA Modifieds, Stock Cars, and Hobby Stocks will round out the program at Independence.

Here are the top storylines entering the weekend:

JUST KEEP WINNING: Every World of Outlaws driver has made at least one start since the tour left Bedford Speedway, but no one has collected as many trophies since then as the current points leader, Bobby Pierce.

On Memorial Day weekend, the Oakwood, IL native headed west to Lucas Oil Speedway and won his second Show-Me 100. He picked up two more victories one week later against the MARS Late Model Championship at LaSalle Speedway before opening Dream week in Victory Lane on Wednesday night at Eldora Speedway. Pierce came close to further extending his streak, finishing second in both preliminary action on Friday and Saturday’s main event.

After taking last week off to allow his father, Bob Pierce, to recover from knee surgery, the No. 32 squad will be back in action at two more places Pierce knows his way around. While he is still searching for his first World of Outlaws win at Pevely, Pierce has two MARS wins and one Summer Nationals score there.
Up in Iowa, the “Smooth Operator” won the first World of Outlaws race at Independence in five years last June, and he’ll look to join Darrell Lanigan as the only multi-time winner at the track on Monday night.

BACK ON TOP: When Tim McCreadie is confident, he’s dangerous. And right now, “T-Mac” is as confident as he’s been in years.

McCreadie kicked his season into high gear at Raceway 7 by driving the No. 9 “Barefoot Bob” throwback to Victory Lane on one of the most emotional nights of his three-decade career. He and team owner Boom Briggs weren’t done there though, as they backed it up with their second win of the week three days later at Bedford.

The team spent the next two weeks preparing that car for Eldora, and their efforts were rewarded on Saturday night. McCreadie was in contention all race long before coming home fourth for his best Dream finish since 2022.

McCreadie will continue his World of Outlaws schedule at a pair of tracks he hasn’t been to in more than a decade. The 2006 Series champion has two top 10s in five starts at I-55 between 2005 and 2013, while he finished fourth in his most recent visit to Independence in 2014.

TO HELL AND BACK: Brian Shirley could easily have a half-dozen wins in 2025 had he made some improvements in the luck department.

Outside of a regional score at Springfield Raceway on Feb. 28, the early portion of Shirley’s season was filled with too many blown engines, flat tires, fiery race cars and near misses to count. The trend continued in the weeks following Bedford, as “Squirrel” made four MARS appearances in late May and started on the pole of two of them but was a DNF on both occasions.

Shirley took on the opening stretch of the Hell Tour looking for a turnaround, but instead got more of the same to open the week. A third-place effort on Wednesday at Kankakee County Speedway was sandwiched by engine trouble while leading his Heat Race at the Brownstown Bullring and a flat tire, knocking him out of the top spot in the Feature at Peoria Speedway.

After months of heartache, things finally came together for the four-time Summer Nationals champion on Saturday at Fairbury Speedway when he outdueled Jason Feger to win his first Hell Tour race in two years. Sunday’s contest at Sycamore Speedway saw Shirley and Feger battling it out at the front yet again, with Feger coming out on top ahead of Shirley in second.

The Bob Cullen Racing team will look to start their climb up from sixth in the standings at I-55, where Shirley has finished top-five four times in World of Outlaws competition, while he did the same at Independence in his first Feature start at the track last year.

MR. PEVELY: Dennis Erb Jr. isn’t just the only full-timer with a World of Outlaws win to their name at Pevely. He’s the only driver to win there three times in the 11 Series races held since 2005.

Ten years removed from the first one in 2012, the Carpentersville, IL gasser swept the weekend in 2022 on his way to the championship. With I-55 being absent from the schedule in 2023 and 2024, Erb still stands as the most recent winner at the track entering the weekend.

Like Shirley, Erb also made his triumphant return to Victory Lane during the break in MARS action at Spoon River Speedway on May 25. While he went winless in Week 1 of the Summer Nationals, his trio of podiums were enough for second in the weeklong points, and Erb plans to run the early portion of Week 2 in search of another victory before resuming his World of Outlaws campaign.

ROLLING IN THE DOUGH: Out of all the drivers who have won in the weeks since Bedford, none have collected a bigger paycheck than Drake Troutman.
The MD3 Rookie of the Year contender was one of four Outlaws present at Mississippi Thunder Speedway for the Modified World Championship on May 29-31, and Troutman led 57 of 80 laps in the Saturday Feature to claim the $100,000 top prize.

With the richest win of his career in the bag, Troutman turned his focus back towards the quest for his first win in the Team22 Motorsports Late Model. He checked that box in Hell Tour competition at Peoria on Thursday for his first Late Model triumph in nearly a year and followed it up on Monday night with his second win in five days at Wilmot Raceway.

Troutman has been solid in his limited starts at Pevely, as he collected top fives with both Summer Nationals and MARS in 2023. Independence could be a wild card though, as Troutman has never raced a Late Model around the Iowa 3/8-mile.
DREAM SCENARIO: Nick Hoffman didn’t do as much racing as some of his fellow Outlaws during the break, but he certainly made the most of his trips to the track.

The Mooresville, NC driver had the best Eldora crown-jewel weekend of his career at the Dream, notching a pair of top fives early in the week before coming from a lap down to third on Saturday to finish on the podium in the main event for the first time.

With momentum on his side from Eldora and a solid Ohio-Pennsylvania swing, Hoffman is set to return to the track he spent more time at than any in his formative years. He spent countless nights watching his dad, Darrell, race at Pevely from the stands, and the track was the site of his first World of Outlaws top 10 in 2018.

Hoffman will fulfill a childhood dream this weekend by making his first I-55 appearance as a full-time World of Outlaws driver with the goal of scoring his second win of the season in front of the home crowd.

RACKING ‘EM UP: In total, six different Outlaws have won at least once since the last stop on tour.

Ashton Winger won for the first time in 2025 with MARS at Tri-City Speedway, where he’ll return in World of Outlaws competition in September. He’ll make his first Series start at I-55 after finishing on the podium in both of his prior Summer Nationals starts there before heading north for his Independence debut on Monday.

Tristan Chamberlain doubled up on Memorial Day weekend, starting with his second local win of the year at Moler Raceway Park before he topped an Ultimate Heart of America Super Late Model Series event at 191 Speedway the following night. The sophomore Outlaw’s lone start at Pevely was a fourth-place run in a local show in 2023, while he finished 16th in his first time at Independence last summer.
