Keith Haney Racing wrapped up their fourth appearance of the Mid-West Drag Racing Series season at Flying H Dragstrip, navigating intense heat and a curfew-shortened schedule. Despite the challenges, the team powered through with a first-round victory and valuable championship points.
Qualifying began with Haney posting a solid 3.693 at 205.63 MPH, landing him mid-pack. A much-anticipated second qualifying run under the lights on Friday night was cancelled due to a strict midnight curfew, pushing the session to Saturday morning. Unfortunately, Haney encountered tire shake just beyond the 60-foot mark and was forced to lift.
In round one of eliminations, Haney faced off against Chris Russo. The contest was decided early when Russo red-lit, jumping the beams before the tree activated. Haney laid down a 3.801 at 201.06 MPH, advancing to round two but surrendering lane choice to top qualifier Robin Roberts.
The second-round matchup was shaping up to be a thriller. Haney gained a slight edge on the line with a stellar .013 reaction time to Roberts’ .017. By the 330-foot mark, Haney was narrowly ahead by .003 seconds, as both cars were on pace for nearly identical runs. However, with the front wheels in the air and drifting toward the centerline, Haney was forced to abort the pass, handing the win to Roberts.
With the summer break now underway, Keith Haney Racing turns their attention to the next event. The Mid-West Drag Racing Series returns September 5–6 at US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan for the Funny Car Nationals.
