Dumpert, Kreisel score at Lakeside Speedway

By Anthony Ainslie (Kansas City, KS) -- The Malvern Bank Super Late Models West Series finished out their 2020 season at Lakeside Speedway on a cool Friday night.

The 15th and final round of the season went southbound to Kansas City, Kansas’ Lakeside Speedway. The race marked the fifth ever visit to the 4/10 mile oval and the first time the final race of the year has been held at Lakeside. A field of 15 cars made the trip to Kansas City for the final night of racing.
The race was slow to get going as a three-car spin slowed the initial start including second in the point standings, Bill Leighton Jr. Cory Dumpert took the lead as the race got underway. The York, Nebraska native set a quick pace around the hub of the speedway while points leader Tad Pospisil worked his way to the second position.

A couple of cautions came out on laps 8 and 18 slowing the race down. All the while, Dumpert continued to lead while Leighton worked his way back toward the front as he was involved in a tight battle with Kyle Berck for second in the standings.

The biggest incident of the night came on a restart with seven laps to go. A spin on the front stretch triggered a pileup collecting seven cars and saw Andrew Kosiski roll over two times before landing on his wheels. Kosiski was taken back to the pits for observations while the other six drivers involved continued on.
Leighton was one of the seven cars involved in the wreck. He made repairs in the pit area and came back from the rear for the second time in the race to finish 11th.

The race stayed green for the final seven laps. Dumpert led, but Pospisil took a couple of peeks to the inside line, but Dumpert kept the clean air to himself.
Dumpert held on to lead all 25 laps to take the $3,000 top prize in his first ever visit to the Lakeside Speedway. The win also marked his third career Malvern Bank Series win and his second West series win in a row.

Tad Pospisil finished second which was enough for the Norfolk, Nebraska driver to clinch his second Malvern Bank Series Championship of his career. Defending champion Kyle Berck took third while Charlie McKenna and Jesse Sobbing rounded out the top five.

With the Malvern Bank West Series season now officially in the books, the Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking East Series will put an end to their inaugural season on October 3rd at the Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Missouri. Pospisil has an 88-point gap over second place Justin Kay as Pospisil will look for the sweep of both series titles.
