Wissota Late Model Challenge Series
Sabraski Stands Tall at Granite City for 6th Career Challenge Series Win
The second trip to the Granite City Motor Park for the 2025 Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series powered by Momentum Truck Group, Freightliner, Western Star for a $3,000 to win Sunday night event, saw Shane Sabraski take the lead on lap 29 from race long leader Kevin Eder and lead the majority of the final ten laps to win his 6th career Challenge Series victory in the 40-lap feature.
The final night of the weekend saw East Bethel Minnesota’s Dave Mass trip the qualifying clock at a 13.748 second lap to set fast time honors and earn the Hiller Auction Co. Quick Qualifying Award on the night. Devin Fouquette, Kevin Eder and Cole Searing topped the three qualifying heat races early in the night’s program to set the feature starting lineup.
Eder and Mass earned the front row for the night’s $3,000 to win, 40-lap feature event with Eder getting the upper hand on the initial start and leading the field into turn number one and lead the opening lap.
With Eder out front, Mass, third starting Shane Sabraski, Searing and Fouquette were in a great early battle for the runner up spot. Sabraski was able to slip by Mass into second on lap 8 just before the first caution of the event flew for a Jared Zimpel crash in turn one.
On the restart, Eder drove back off into the top spot, while Sabraski and Mass resumed their outstanding side-by-side battle for second with Searing, Kendall and Jeff Provinzino inside the top five as well. Eder continued to pace the field around the high side of Granite City, with Searing and Kendall door to door for the third spot just behind, while Sabraski was trying to reel in Eder up front.
Eder continued to lead at the halfway point with Sabraski, Searing, Kendall and Mass completing the top five with twenty scored and twenty to go. Sabraski continued to pressure Eder for the lead, while in traffic with Kendall creeping forward, making it a three-car battle for the lead with Sabraski and Eder running side by side out front for several laps until the second and final caution of the feature flew on lap 30, with just ten to go.
On the final restart of the night, Sabraski took back off to the lead, but Kendall came right back to his inside then outside to try to overhaul him for his first career series win. Kendall was able to lead lap 35, but Sabraski had just enough left in the tank to re-take the lead a lap later and race to victory by .202 seconds. Kendall ran second with Eder third, followed by Searing and 20th starting Jayson Good, who raced forward 15 spots to earn Wehrs Machine Hard Charger honors.
Tanner Mullens won the USMTS Modified feature, Landyn Randt won the Midwest Modified feature, and Calvin Saldana won the Crown Vic feature as well to round out the night.
