Droud claims first series victory of season in NCRA Sprint Action at 81 Speedway

By David Smith, Jr, NCRA PR (Park City, KS) -- Defending series champion Don Droud, Jr. took the lead with seven laps remaining then went the rest of the distance unchallenged to claim his first feature victory of the season as the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products sprint car division made a Labor Day Saturday night stop at 81 Speedway in Park City.

J.D. Johnson and Danny Jennings started on the front row for the twenty-lap-feature with Johnson taking the lead as the green flag fell. Jennings, Jeff Stasa, Droud and Jeremy Campbell were the top five after the first lap with Johnson opening up a ten-car-length lead after lap three.

Lap five saw his lead stretch to a half-stretch over Jennings before Johnson reached the slower cars one lap later allowing Jennings to cut the deficit to five car lengths. But Jennings would slide high off the track exiting turn two one lap later allowing Droud, Stasa and Campbell to get by, dropping Jennings back to fifth.

Droud began to reel in the leader and was within six car lengths by lap eleven. Two laps later Droud got a run coming out of turn two down the backstretch and passed Johnson for the lead on lap seventeen.

Campbell and Stasa would pass Johnson for second and third respectively while Droud began to pull away from the field.

In the end, there was no catching Droud as he would cruise the rest of the way to claim the half-straightaway victory over seventh starting Campbell. Stasa’s best series run of the year garnered him a third-place finish while Johnson and Jennings rounded out the top five.

The two, eight lap heat races for the sixteen-car field were won by Stasa and Jeninngs.

The NCRA Sprint Car division will be back in action one week from tonight, September 9, as they make their second and final appearance of the season at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Nebraska in a co-sanctioned event with the Nebraska 360 Sprint Car Series in an event that will pay $2500 to win and $500 to start the night’s feature finale.

Leonard Dominate in NCRA Late Model Stop at 81 Speedwa

Park City, Kansas – September 2, 2017 - Dusty Leonard utilized his outside front row starting position to his advantage as he took the lead at the start and never looked back to claim the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products crate late model feature victory Saturday night at 81 Speedway in Park City.

Jimmy Segraves and Leonard started on the front row for the twenty-lap feature with Leonard grabbing the lead as the green flag fell. Segraves, Chris Kratzer, Kip Hughes and Damian Patocka were the top five after the first lap with Segraves setting a torrid pace out front.

Lap two would see Kratzer dispose of Segraves for the runner-up position but not even a lone caution during the feature for a Jeremy Bishop spin on lap thirteen could slow Leonards pace as he would go on and cruise to his first series victory of the season and third career with NCRA.

Kratzer settled for second and is now tied with season-long points leader Delbert Smith for the top spot in the point standings. Segraves settled for third while Dustin Bolster and Delbert Smith rounded out the top five.
The two, eight lap heat races for the fourteen-car field were won by Leonard and Segraves.

The NCRA Crate Late Model Series will be back in action on Saturday night, September 16, as they make their final appearance of the season at Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta.

Kennedys Long Drive from Iowa Pays Off for NCRA Mod Lite Victory!

Park City, Kansas – September 2, 2017 - Mike Kennedy made the long-tow from his Boone, Iowa home worth the drive as he claimed his first career National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products mod-lite feature victory Saturday night at 81 Speedway in Park City.

Trace Ayers and Kinderknecht started on the front row for the twenty-lap feature with Kinderknecht grabbing the lead as the green flag fell. Sixth starting Dustin Forsberg made his way up into the third position on the opening lap and passed Ayers for the runner-up position on lap three. Three laps later Ayers would reclaim the runner-up position while current point leader Kindeknecht had opened a sizeable lead over the rest of the field.

Ayers would experience mechanical gremlins coming down the front stretch on lap nine and would exit the race track with Forsberg reclaiming the second position.

Kennedy, who started fifth, got past Forsberg for the runner-up position at the races midway point before the first and only caution of the feature would fall on lap fourteen when Cody Kretchmar spun in turn four.

The final restart was Kinderknechts undoing as Kennedy would get a run on the leader coming down the front stretch on lap fifteen and would cruise the rest of the way to pick up the victory.

Kinderknecht settled for second while Briley Goodwin, Randy Bryan and Charlie Brown rounded out the top five.

The two, eight lap heat races for the sixteen-car field were won by Ayers and Kinderknecht.

Next up for the NCRA Mod-Lite division will be on Saturday night, September 9, at Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta.

Green Sweeps NCRA Modified Weekend, Claims 81 Speedway Laurels!

Park City, Kansas – September 2, 2017 - Fresh off his series victory one night earlier in Salina, Kansas, defending series champion Scott Green doubled-up on this Labor Day holiday weekend as the National Championship Racing Association stopped at 81 Speedway in Park City on Saturday night with Green taking the victory.

Josh Lanterman and Marlin Farr started on the front row for the twenty-lap feature with Lanterman taking the lead as the green flag fell. Ryan McAninch, Farr, Cecil Dymond seventh-starting Green were the top five with Lanterman
opening a three-car length lead by lap three.

The lead pack stayed that way until the first of two caution flags fell on lap ten when Jason McGehee was forced into the front stretch wall to bring out the caution.

The attempted restart wasn’t kind to Tyler Davis as he and another car made contact on the front stretch with the former series champion getting the worst end of the wreck and would have to retire pit side.

On the restart, Green would get a run down low entering turns one and two and would pull in front of Lanterman heading down the backstretch to take the lead on lap eleven.

Green had opened a full straightaway lead with six laps to go while behind him, “B” feature winner Brian Franz and McAninch battled side by side for the runner up position.

The caution would wave one final time when Lanterman brought out the lap sixteen caution as he stopped at the top of turn two with a flat tire.

But Green would be up to the challenge on the final restart and he would go the final four laps unchallenged to claim his second feature victory of the season by a full straightaway over McAninch.

Former two-time series champion and current points leader Dan Powers had a struggling night come to a positive end. Powers lost a motor in his heat race causing him to start eighteenth in the ten-lap “B” feature. He would work his way up to a fourth-place finish, which put him starting fourteenth in the feature finale. Powers would pass Franz for third with two laps remaining to finish third while leading rookie of the year contender Jon Herring, Jr. rounded out the top five.

The four, eight lap heat races for the thirty-car field were won by McGehee, Farr, Dymond and Herring.

The NCRA Modified division will be back in action on Saturday night, September 9, as they make their first and only appearance of the season at Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta.
