Meet the Team: Tim Franz
The Midwest Legends Dirt Series could not operate if it wasn’t for some very dedicated people. This article series will spotlight the men and women behind the scenes who keep the wheels turning and races going.
In this edition, we get to focus on the man who has one of the toughest jobs, Tim Franz. Tim, a fulltime competitor with the series, is our track man, who works with all sorts of facilities to get us to the best tracks around the region. Tim is always found around the pits, helping out where he is needed, and always open to teach someone a new trick he has gotten throughout his years of racing. Let’s learn a bit more about Tim!!
Name - Tim Franz
Hometown - Oshkosh WI
Job outside of racing - Retired fire chief & current fire instructor
Position in the series - Event Scheduler/Track Relations (and anything else Mike needs done)
How you got into racing - My uncle Bob Olson raced coupes/early modifieds in the 60's (yes, I'm that old), and I always loved those cars. My dad took my brother Dave and I to a lot of races. Legends remind me of those cars, I always wanted to drive.
Thoughts on the 2024 season - I thought it went pretty well for our first season with a new organizational approach. Mike is a good leader, and we had a great team. We got along well and had fun doing it.
Favorite memory of last year - We went green to checkered in the A-main at Chilton, that is a feat for any class. That was a turning point for us!
Favorite part of the series - The camaraderie of all the drivers and teams. I've been involved in a lot of different auto racing; the legends groups are the best for having fun! I was happy to see it get better every week, and the banquet really showed it.
Without Tim, the series would not be racing anywhere. The amount of work Tim does behind the scenes to work with tracks and get the series the best deal is unmeasurable. Tim worked hard to get the series schedule looking as good as it does now and can’t wait for the 2025 season!!
