ZACK CURREN SCORES EMOTIONAL RACE OF CHAMPIONS SPORTSMAN MODIFIED SERIES WIN AT CHEMUNG SPEEDROME IN TRIBUTE TO ED MCGUIRE 51
– Joe Mancuso and Trisha Connolly Also Visit Victory Lane on Saturday Night at Chemung –
Chemung, N.Y. – (July 19, 2025) – Zack Curren of Horseheads, N.Y., delivered a powerful and emotional performance on Saturday night at Chemung Speedrome, capturing the win in the Race of Champions Sportsman Modified Series “Tribute to Ed McGuire 51.” Curren competed in a tribute car honoring his friend, Connor Sellars, who passed away unexpectedly earlier this year.
The annual event honors Ed McGuire, a longtime competitor and car owner in the Southern Tier racing community. It has become a cherished tradition at Chemung Speedrome.
“This was a big night for all of us,” Curren said in victory lane. “We did this for Connor. His dad Joe was here and paced the field in Connor’s dirt car. It was emotional. Once I got the lead, I just focused on not making a mistake, and everything came together. I can’t thank everyone who helped us enough. This win means the world.”
Curren held off Kevin Youngs of Pine City, N.Y., who came home second, while defending Series champion Kevin Timmerman of Ontario, N.Y., completed the podium in third. Evan Rygielski of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and Lee Sharpsteen of Waverly, N.Y., rounded out the top five.
Curren, Youngs, and T.J. Potrzebowski of Elmira, N.Y., won the qualifying races. Curren also posted the fastest time during final practice.
