Doar Dusts Off Another; Wins Border Battle at Gondik Law

The 2025 Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series powered by Momentum Truck Group, Freightliner, Western Star rolled into the Gondik Law Speedway in Superior, Wisconsin as a part of the 9th annual Great Lakes Border Battle for the first time in the event’s history and saw New Richmond, Wisconsin’s Pat Doar win the 40-lap feature by withstanding several pressure filled moments from Shane Sabraski to race to his 43rd career Challenge Series victory, adding to his lead as the series’ all-time winningest driver in the process.

The Independence Day event saw both Billy Kendall and Mike Bellefeuille both trip the clock at a 15.875 second lap to share fast time honors. Kendall, Doar, Sabraski and Jeff Provinzino topped the four qualifying heat races early in the night’s program mains and Mike Bellefeuille won th4 night’s b-main to set the feature starting lineup.

Kendall and Doar earned the front row for the night’s $3,000 to win, 40-lap feature event with Doar getting the upper hand on the initial start and leading the field into turn number one and lead the opening lap.

Doar got out front early, running his patented high line around the smooth Gondik Law Speedway and lead Kendall, Provinzino and Sabraski early until the first caution of the 40-lapper flew on lap four for a Devin Fouquette/Mike Bellefeuille tangle in turn two.

On the restart, Doar blasted around the 3/8 mile red clay oval with Sabraski taking the second spot, while Provinzino, Kendall and Kevin Eder were in a great battle just behind. Darrell Nelson and Cole Searing were also engaged in a great battle of their own for a spot inside the top five.

As the leaders raced off into the Twin Ports night, several great battles were ongoing for the runner up spot and for fifth as the race continued without incident past the halfway point.

Doar lead Sabraski, Kendall, Provinzino and Eder at the halfway point.

The second and final caution for a Joel Bennett spin flew on lap 26, and the remainder of the race ran non-stop with great action throughout the field, as Doar was able to continue to hit his marks and hold off lap after lap challenge by Sabraski to race to his 43rd career Challenge Series victory just ahead of Sabraski’s #7a. Provinzino rounded out the podium, with Hard Charger Jeff Massingill in fourth and Nelson finishing inside the top five.

Bob Broking won the WISSOTA Modified feature. Joey Jensen won the WISSOTA Super Stock and Midwest Modified features, while Tom Treviranus won the WISSOTA Pure Stock feature as well.
