It’s easy to tell Spring Break has arrived in the Panhandle.
While students and families from across the country descend upon Pensacola’s magical, sandy beaches, Logan Boyett and family spent their time deep in the woods of Pelahatchie, Miss., just east of Jackson.
“I dislike the sand,” the 36-year-old Pensacola driver said with a laugh.
Despite getting rerouted because of last week’s devastating tornadoes and storms that swept through the south, the eventual destination provided the perfect respite and reset for Boyett.
He begins his title defense in the Faith Chapel Outlaws class Friday night when Five Flags Speedway gets its 2025 season underway with a tripleheader weekend.
The Gulf Real Estate Group Pro Trucks, The Dock on Pensacola Beach Sportsmen and the Story & Bleich Roofing Crown Stocks join the Outlaws on Friday when Opening Night admission is only $10 for fans. Children, ages 5 to 11, get in free.
The ARCA Menards Series East (Pensacola 150) and the four-cylinder Vore’s Compact Touring Series (Pest Doctor Bash at the Beach 40) continue the action Saturday night with the ASA STARS National Tour (Sunshine State 200) wrapping up the action Sunday afternoon.

After collecting his first career Outlaws track championship and third overall—he has a pair of Pro Trucks titles (2018, 2022)—Boyett is tweaking his team’s approach after finally succeeding at points racing.
“We always feel like the hunted and hunter,” Boyett said. “We were fortunate to come away with the win last year. It meant a whole lot.”
Doug Thorpe Jr.’s triumph was especially meaningful. Thorpe won the Crown Stocks division crown in 2024, three decades after winning a Late Model track championship at Five Flags.
Last season’s success has helped pave the way for new opportunities in 2025.
The 61-year-old Thorpe is itching to “travel a little bit” and test his mettle against the top Crown Stocks drivers across the south. In addition to running the Five Flags schedule, he’ll make trips to Montgomery (Ala.) Motor Speedway, South Alabama Speedway and Cordele (Ga.) Motor Speedway.
He is also excited to help his brother Keith get back into racing after a decade away. Keith Thorpe will compete against Boyett and the other Outlaws.
“We’ve always been a family racing team,” Doug Thorpe said. “We don’t hunt; don’t fish. We race and enjoy doing it.”
Doug Thorpe didn’t rest on his laurels this offseason.
He and David Tau dissected the entire car, installing a rear-end, new shocks and a lot of maintenance work.
“We don’t lay down in the winter,” Thorpe said. “It’s a young man’s sport in a way. But Crown Stocks are perfect for me and my age. I couldn’t get out there and run a 100-lap race. A 50-lap would wear me out.”
Sounds like you won’t be seeing Thorpe racing the Pensacola 150 on Saturday or the Sunshine State 200 on Sunday. He’ll be watching closely, though.
The road to the 58th Snowball Derby begins this weekend. With ASA, ARCA and the Vore’s Compact Touring Series highlighting the marquee tripleheader weekend, the energy running through the pits has a Derby feel to it.
“Any special weekend means a little bit more,” Boyett acknowledged. “All are important, but getting extra eyes gives me extra incentive. Checkered flags and trophies are what we’re after.”
Thorpe added: “Let her rip, potato chip!”
