Pleasanton, TX.,(June 11th, 2025) Wait, what day is it?

Yes that's right, I-37 Speedway kicked off its trio of Wednesday night special shows on the ¼ mile, semi-banked, clay oval. These shows bring back the IMCA Modifieds, plus the Limited Modifieds and Factory Stocks in action on for a special show. The three race mini-series(6-11, 7-9, 8-13) will have its own championship in each class with the top three in each class picking up the series' championship pay out.

The IMCA Modifieds sponsored by Sundowner Performance Diesel will race for $1,000 to win each race and another grand by 3-D Landscaping for the series championship. In Limited Modifieds by Comanche Concrete and Factory Stocks by All is Designs $500 to win is up for grabs. The Limited Modified championship is worth $500 by 366 Motorsports.

Now, the weather. The weather guessers called for rain, heavy at times, for almost the entire week. Tuesday mornings rain missed the track, but the heat and sun didn't. Overnight rain skirted the track with a minimal amount at the track. So how much to water with temperatures in the 90's. The track was fast despite a few spots starting to peel up in the corners where the cars took a set. The weather may have scared a bunch of the out-of-town guys making for short, but stout fields in all three classes.

Oh, let's not forget about that full, strawberry moon. What could go wrong? Right?

Dinsmore Dynamic for Modified Dollars
After redrawing the pole, Logan Dinsmore was first to turn 1 after Dean Abbey lightly kissed the front stretch wall. Cody Leonard was able to get by for second, with Abbey, Jared Maupin and Ryan Doyon in the top five. Maupin got alongside Abbey for third and after taking the spot was looking low on Leonard. Maupin took the position bringing Abbey along to third. Abbey then put pressure on Maupin for second while Doyon and Leonard battled for fourth.

As they scrapped it out in the four-car battle, L. Dinsmore was getting away at the crossed flags ahead of Maupin, Abbey, Leonard and Doyon. Abbey was finally able to get second from Maupin, but L. Dinsmore had checked out. Slow traffic was the only thing to hold L. Dinsmore up, but Abbey, Maupin, Leonard and Doyon got bottlenecked as they all caught lapped traffic in a pack.
By the time the quartet cleared traffic, L. Dinsmore(Kerrville) had built almost a half track advantage. This gave the young, second generation, driver nearly a half track lead as he took the checkers in his Sundowner Performance Diesel, Royals Automotive, Carquest of Kerrville, Swenson Racing Shocks, Lowery Plumbing, KEVCO Drive Shafts, Releaf for Troops, OnDemand Shirts, Jimmy's Towing, Klein crate powered IRP Chassis.

“Dad wasn't here so I think I'll just tell him that I didn't win,” joked Dinsmore about winning the $1,000 Fast Shafts IMCA Modified qualifier. “I'll keep the money and just pretend it didn't happen. They told the lap car to hold his line and he moved down a little. He did what he was supposed to. I just really wanted to stay on the bottom since I didn't know how close they were. Luckily I got around him quickly.”

“I knew with Dean(Abbey), Cody(Leonard) and the fast guys behind me, I'd better never let off. In my head I wasn't lifting. I was balls to the wall the whole time. I had to keep going and make sure they couldn't catch me.”

“We made some real small changes between the heat and feature. I saw the track was starting to tear up and pull moisture from the bottom. It was getting faster. It was pretty quick. I was hoping for a dry slick track. We've got this car pretty dialed in for those type tracks now. I want to see what that feels like.”

“My dad sent me the picture of that rut in turn 1, and I still drove through it every time. It seemed to be better when I drove through it. When I missed it, I didn't hit the corner good. So I'd hit it, bounce, it would rotate, land and I'd keep going.”

“Besides Cody and Dean you've got Jared(Maupin), Stevie(Whiteaker) in his CDR car, Johnny(Torres) in his new car, Marcus(Mikulencak) who can win in any class and Cameron Starry to look out for. There were a lot of fast Modifieds here tonight. So you have to stay on your toes at all times.”

Torres to the Top on the Bottom
A short but stout field took the green for the 20-lap Limited Modified feature with Trent Beaver getting out front trailed by Steven Whiteaker III, Tanner Whitmire, Johnny Torres and Caden Morosky. Torres quickly took third from Whitmire and was along side Whiteaker for second, taking the spot after a brief side by side battle. By lap 5 Beaver had inched away from the three-car battle for second. Coming to halfway it was Beaver, Torres, Whitemire and Whiteaker.

Torres and Whitmire had begun cutting in to Beavers advantage when yellow waved for debris on lap 15. On the restart, Whitmire was looking high on Torres for second. A turn 4 slip by Beaver gave Torres the opening low and he took it getting the top spot on lap 17. Beaver tried to dive back under Torres in turn 1 on lap 18 and once again as the white flag waved. Coming toward the checkers, Torres slipped a little too high off turn giving Beaver a chance to try the bottom as they drag raced to the line. Torres(San Antonio) was able to hold on for the victory in the Mike Terry owned, Comanche Concrete, TexMix, Western Concrete Pumping, SWL Inc, Concrete Clean up, Supreme Graphics, Head Racing, Mike Terry Motorsports, Rerher and Morrison powered IRP Chassis.

“I just figured I needed to drive it a little harder than the heat race,” exclaimed Torres. “I guess I should have taken my own advice in the Modified too, I was terrible. I feel like if there were fifteen cars in the main, the top five would have been the same with the quality of cars that showed up tonight. There were tough cars here for sure.”

“I actually thought the caution would hurt me, even though it closed the gap(on Trent). He was starting to get tight and I could turn around the bottom better. I didn't want his crew to tell him I was running the bottom, but I guess they didn't. Everybody races me pretty clean. They know if they me dirty, they'll get it back, times five.”

“We will be here for all these Wednesday shows as long as Russell(Vickery) can make it. It was kind of hard running two classes. In the heats it showed because we didn't make the right adjustments. It's pretty tough, but we'll be here for both of them.”

“I think it's pretty cool running on Wednesday night. I just wish we could get more cars. The track was good, there was a big audience online, it is tough to get here before 7:30 though. The rain definitely had something to do with it too. I was kind of wishy-washy about coming myself and I live close. Big rain chance but we dodged it luckily.”

First Factory Checkers for Egbert
As green flew on the 20-lap Factory Stock feature Anthony Gordon and Ryder Egbert stayed side by side in turn 1 with Gordon inching ahead off turn 2. R. Egbert fought back with the two door to door at the line chased by GW Egbert IV, Lawrence Mikulencak and Vince Kacir. R. Egbert got the advantage on Gordon on lap 2 before Jesse Sandoval and Jason Oltman made contact on the front stretch. Oltman took a trip through the infield while Sandoval got hung up on the berm of the entry road.

R. Egbert got a good restart while Gordon and GW Egbert ran side by side for second. Gordon held the spot after GW Egbert clipped the front stretch wall allowing Mikulencak to get by for third. Miulencak then got under Gordon for second while Ray Allen Kuhlhanek took fifth from Kacir. The top five at halfway showed T. Egbert, Mikulencak, GW Egbert, Kuhlhanek and Kacir after Gordon pulled off.

Mikulencaks good charge to second went south on lap 12 when he slowed and pulled off before a spin by Oltman slowed the pace on lap 13. R. Ryder jumped out quickly while Kuhlhanek took second from GW Egbert with Kacir and Michael Keylich then getting by a slowing GW Egbert. With two to go, R. Egbert had crept away to a half straightaway margin over Kuhlhanek.

From there, R. Egbert(Salado) went on to take his first ever win, in his first ever start at I-37 in his first year of running Factory Stock in the 121 Towing, Speed Secrets, E&E Collision, Lakeside Ice Machines, TD Marine Detailing, Big-Tex, Dirt Defender, Day Motorsports, Best Engines, Outlaw by 7 Motorsports Chassis.
*** My history of winning interviews for the Egbert family continues after GW Egbert, Trevor Egbert, PJ Egbert and George Egbert III over the past 20-some years

“Starting up front was kind of scary, I was shaking,” replied the 15 year old Egbert. “I guess I found the right line to run. I really had no clue, I was just sending it in there. It was sticking. I just thought the middle was the fastest. I watched some past races online, tried to learn some stuff and guess we figured out the track pretty quick.”

“I can't thank my family enough for all the help and advice they give me. They try to help and make me better to be able to get that win. I completely listen to them. They've been racing their whole lives and this just the beginning of the third year for me. Anything they tell me, I try to listen to them because they know best. We didn't even have to change one thing from the heat to the feature.”
