Jim Shampine Memorial ‘Battle for Bruce’ to Pay $5,022 to Win Saturday at Oswego Speedway
OSWEGO, NY (June 14, 2025) – Following Friday night’s frightening crash involving driver Mike Bruce during Fast Friday practice at Oswego Speedway, the track will honor the longtime competitor as part of tonight’s 60-lap Jim Shampine Memorial for the Novelis Supermodifieds.
In support of Bruce and his No. 22 Supermodified team, tonight’s feature will now also carry the Battle for Bruce title, paying $5,022 to win. The event will remain the 60-lap Jim Shampine Memorial, with this added tribute in Mike’s honor.
In addition, a special 'Double Deuce Strong' Lap 22 Leader Bonus has been established for all divisions racing tonight. The leader of lap 22 in Supermodifieds, SBS, and Super Stocks will receive a $22.22 bonus in recognition of Mike and his No. 22.
A helmet pass will also be conducted at the Speedway next weekend to help raise funds for Mike and his family during his recovery.
After a stuck throttle, Bruce sustained two fractures in his back - one at L1 and one at T12 - and has been admitted to a Syracuse hospital. He is currently in a back brace and being closely monitored by a neurosurgery team, who are checking on him every two hours. The breaks are clean, and Mike is stable, but he is experiencing a tremendous amount of pain.
Doctors estimate his recovery time will be anywhere from 3 to 5 weeks, possibly extending to 6 to 8 weeks, which will sideline him for much of the summer. However, as those around him know, Mike is determined to bounce back as quickly as possible.
Mike and Carlee extend their appreciation to everyone for the overwhelming amount of texts, calls, and support. If his recovery allows, Mike hopes to make a visit back to the Speedway as early as next week to see everyone. In the meantime, he wishes all of his fellow competitors the best of luck tonight.
Please continue to keep Mike, Carlee, and their entire family in your thoughts and prayers.
