Dan Kapuscinski Charges from 12th to Victory in Flack Racing 23
OSWEGO, NY (July 19, 2025) - The Pathfinder Bank SBS class delivered another exciting race on Children’s Museum of Oswego, Oswego County Habitat for Humanity, and Chase Enterprises Night at Oswego Speedway. Saturday marked the sixth event of the season for the division, with Tessa Crawford and Matt Matteson leading the field to green in the 30-lap main event.
Before a lap could be completed, the caution flag waved for Noah Ratcliff, who spun in turn three. On the original restart, Matteson grabbed the early lead after Crawford had inched out front on the initial start. By lap two, Cameron Rowe slid into second, with Brad Haynes following through to take third.
It didn’t take long for Rowe to reel in the race leader Matteson, while Dan Kapuscinski was already making his way through the field, charging from 12th to 4th by lap nine. Another yellow flew on lap 11, and heartbreak struck for Matteson, who broke while leading and pulled to the infield, handing the lead to Rowe under yellow. Haynes ran second with Kapuscinski up to third.
A second lap 11 yellow came shortly after, involving Tony DeStevens and collecting Greg O'Connor and Darrick Hilton in turn three. This set up a single-file restart with Rowe pacing the field. Haynes held second after Kapuscinski had briefly taken the spot before the caution, but Kapuscinski quickly reclaimed second on the restart, shuffling Haynes to third, with Drew Pascuzzi and Carter Gates rounding out the top five.
The lead proved to be a tough position to hold, as Rowe slowed and exited the race from the top spot on lap 13, allowing Kapuscinski to inherit the lead. At halfway, the Flack Racing No. 23 led the way over Haynes, Pascuzzi, Gates, and DJ Shuman, who worked his way into the top five. Crawford continued a solid run in sixth.
With nine laps to go, Pascuzzi made a great move to slip under Haynes for second, but by then Kapuscinski was long gone out front, driving away to collect his 14th career Pathfinder Bank SBS win on Compass Federal Credit Union Big Wheel Night at the Oswego Speedway.
Pascuzzi crossed the line a strong second, followed by Haynes in third, Shuman fourth, and Gates rounding out the top five. Crawford, Tony Pisa, Cameron Rowe Jr., CJ Crawford, and Tony DeStevens completed the top ten.
In victory lane, Kapuscinski said, “The car was running really good. When we had the double files, I felt like we were better off. I had Brad at first, then we went back to a single file restart. I knew something happened to Cam coming down the front straightaway, and I’m sorry I bumped into him out of two because the car came to a stop, but fortunately we were able to get out and around him.
Classic is probably going to be my last race, so I don’t know if I’ll get to talk in front of everybody again, but this means the world to me to be here and to do this with my family. It was a really good race and a lot of fun.
Thanks to Dave and Steve. Steve said, ‘Let’s put a turn in the LR before the feature,’ and the thing was a rocket, so it worked out really well.
Thanks to Premiere Landscaping, Burger Masonry, Independent Pizzeria, Oscar Roofing, Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux, Mohawk Northeast - and all the fans for coming out tonight - it’s a nice crowd. We’ll be back at Classic to try to redeem a bad day last year and get a good day under our belt this year.”
Oswego Speedway is off next Saturday, July 26 for Harborfest and the ISMA/MSS Sandusky Speedway Hy-Miler Nationals. Racing returns to action on Saturday, August 2 with Novelis Supermodified and GTR Super Stock twins plus the Oswego County Tourism 350 Supermodifieds.
