Williamson Takes BRP Mod Tour Opener; Spithaler Tops Peoples Sprints; Charlier Earns RUSH LM Honors; Schneider Grabs First Lernerville Victory

Sarver, PA (May 17, 2025) The rain stayed away from Lernerville Speedway on Friday night, and a racy surface greeted drivers who made their way to the pits as the BRP Modified Tour headlined a different kind of Fab4 Racing Revved UP with Marburger Farm Dairy. The Glassmere Fuel Service Late Models enjoyed a rare night off, making room for a Hovis Auto & Truck Supply RUSH Late Models City Chevrolet weekly event on Friday night while the Peoples Natural Gas Sprint Cars and the Millerstown Pic-A-Part Pro Stocks rounded out the four division program.

A robust 37 car BRP Modified Tour field assembled at The Action Track with a good many invaders from the Niagara Frontier on hand to take on the best of the best among the Western PA/Eastern OH contingent in the 35-lap, $2,500-to-win tour opener. Justin Shea started on the pole and was eclipsed in quick fashion by four time track champion Jeremiah Shingledecker who was in command in the early laps with his car positioned on the cushion ledge, flirting with the final inch of it at times as he used the momentum to his advantage. Meanwhile, another four time champion, Canada’s Mat Williamson, started from the third spot and began stalking the leader in the early green flag laps.

Using a lower groove of the surface, Williamson gradually made up ground, passing Shingledecker just past the halfway point while fifth starting and defending tour champion Erick Rudolph found himself running third. A caution with nine laps to go seemingly set the stage for a classic battle for the top three, and upon the restart, Williamson simply drove away while Rudolph battled past Shingledecker for the second spot. Rudolph was able to make up a tenth of a second or two over the remaining laps but with no heavy lapped traffic in front of Williamson, the St. Catharine’s, Ontario driver was able to cross under the checkered flag with a fairly comfortable two second advantage ahead of Rudolph and a hard charging Garrett Krummert who rounded out the podium from the 10th starting position. Shingledecker and invader Dalton Slack took up the final two spots in the top five.

The persistent threat of rain, with forecasts indicating a chance of rain through the racing window may have kept some of the Peoples Natural Gas Sprint Cars at home, yielding an 11 car field for the night. However, in terms of quality, there were some heavy hitters in the lineup as stout area pilots Brandon Spithaler and Ricky Peterson made the haul to challenge AJ Flick, Carl Bowser, Dan Kuriger and so forth. Kuriger started on the pole of the 25-lap main event and led the first 12 laps until second starting Spithaler made his way around for the lead on lap 13. Defending and eight time track champion Flick started seventh on the grid and progressively made his way up to third by the wave of the checkered flag. But on Friday night, the class of the field was Spithaler who once in the lead, never looked back, taking a 1.8 second advantage over Kuriger over the start/finish line to collect with win with Peterson and Bowser rounding out the top five.

A pair of Gunn’s started up front in the 20-lap Hovis Auto & Truck RUSH Late Model main event as Jake and Zack Gunn made up the front row. Jake managed to lead the first five laps before fifth starting Daryl Charlier managed to overtake him on lap six. Fourth starting and 2024 Pro Stock champion Christian Schneider made his way past Jake Gunn for the second spot on lap 12, but was unable to catch Charlier out front who was two seconds better than Schneider at the end of 20 laps. Multipurpose wheelman Logan Lockhart and Zach Gunn rounded out the top five.

In Millerstown Pic-A-Part Pro Stock action, Tyler Schneider took home his first career feature victory, after several close changes in 2024 that put him on the brink of a victory. On Friday night, Schneider capitalized, wresting the top spot away from pole sitter Logan Koteles, Schneider kept the field at bay as Cody Koteles and Corey McPherson made their way to the second and third spots respectively. Schneider crossed just .03 seconds ahead of an oncoming Cody Koteles to collect the win with McPherson rounding out the podium as Jacob Dietz and Brett Hutira took spots four and five at the end of 20 laps.

Lernerville Speedway will open up twice next week as our first Test & Tune Tuesday will take place on Tuesday, May 20 as rotating hot laps, plus appearances from the Experience Butler County Mini Stocks, Vintage Modified Series and the Aquaholic Motorsports Powder Puff Series will be in action with hot laps starting at 6 PM and racing programs blending in later. Grandstands will be free and open to the public. Fab4 Racing Revved UP with Marburger Farm Dairy then takes center stage on Friday, May 23 with pits opening at 4 PM, grandstands opening at 5 PM and racing starting at 7:30 PM. Adult general admission is $20 on Friday night while children 10 and under are admitted free.
