ROBIE AND BEECHER STAY HOT SATURDAY AT MONADNOCK SPEEDWAY

Monadnock Speedway Saturday, June 14, event story

WINCHESTER, N.H. – Modified ace Brian Robie won his second feature event of the young season Saturday at Monadnock Speedway, and outsider Justin Beecher continued his summer of success on the high banks, topping his second Super Street special event this season.

Young Gun Sofia Rego won for the second time too on Saturday, while Green Mountain Boy Kyle Kenny was victorious in a special Pure Stock 50-lapper. Teen star Owen Zilinski topped the Mini Stocks, and defending track Six Shooter champ Michael Yeaton made a late-race pass to score his win Saturday.

Cory Plummer and Andy Major sat up front for the Allstate Material Group 604 Modified field to take the green for their 50-lap main event. Plummer rocketed into the early lead, holding the point for 12 laps.

But while Plummer held the top spot, he was one of a fistful of open-wheeled missiles racing glued together in the opening laps. Behind him, Major, Todd Patnode, Kimmy Rivet and Brian Robie blasted around the high banks under a blanket.

After early season rainouts, everyone was hungry for victory Saturday, no one more so than Brian Robie. Firing from row four, the Sunapee sizzler rocketed from third to first on lap 13 and then drove off to win with ease.

Behind him, a great battle raged. Major, in his best outing in a Modified, impressed in second, while previous winner Andrew Brousseau charged back from an early-race wobble to come home third. Ty Leclerc was a solid fourth, and Patnode finished fifth. Robie – at 12.305 seconds – set fast time in qualifying.

Erik Smith and Hillary Renaud sat on the front row as the Twin State Truck Services Super Streets went green. Bumper-to-bumper and often three-across, there was no place for the timid in this one.

Justin Beecher – a couple of weeks off his big R&R Open Street Stock victory here – charged from row seven to take second on lap 12, then gluing his ride to Smith’s until low-lining into the lead nine circuits later. Robert Hagar – victorious the night before at Claremont – got up for second on lap 29 but could then only watch as Beecher scored his second major victory in a row on the high banks.

Smith finished his strong night’s work in third, just ahead of Nate Wenzel and Chris Riendeau. Dylan Zullo and Hillary Renaud won the heats.
The Brattleboro Towing and Recovery Pure Stock feature line-up was stacked with favorites – Chris Davis, Gordon Farnum, JD Stockwell, Jimmy Zellman – but it was the kid from Rutland, VT who dominated the 50-lapper Saturday.

Kyle Kenny led all the way to score the win. Young Gun alumnus Markus O’Neal was rock solid in second, and Carlos Grenier, fresh off a Ridge Runner victory the night before at Claremont, came home third. Kenny and Farnum won the heats.

Teen star Owen Zilinski started up front in the Fabian Fuels Mini Stock feature and never looked back. Mini Stock kingpin Louie Mahar held the deuce spot the first 26 times around, before previous winner John Fultz edged past him. Julia Raymond impressed in fourth, and Cameron Sontag was fifth.

Heat winner Travis Hollins ran a perfect line for the first 17 laps of the Six Shooter feature, but Michael Yeaton’s top groove persistence then paid off and the reigning divisional champ sped off to score a six-length victory over Hollins. Garrett Barry was a close third.

Sofia Rego won both her heat and the Doug’s Auto Body Young Guns feature Saturday. Hunter Duquette was strong in second, and Maya Bell trophied in third.

Monadnock Speedway will roar back into action next Saturday, June 21, with a huge, can’t-miss, special event. The storied quarter-mile will host the first annual Northeast Summer Showdown, featuring a 100—lap MRS Open Modified main event paying $5,000 to the winner. Names like Hirschman, Emerling and Pasteryak are already on board for this huge race.

The always-exciting Pro-4 Modifieds will be in action too, along with the speedway’s Super Streets, Pure Stocks and Young Guns. Post time for the Northeast Summer Showdown is 6 p.m.
