Familiar Faces and Cars Grace Victory Lane at Owosso Speedway

A fantastic four-in-one show at the Owosso Speedway began with great weather and a good crowd on hand for the first of two Autograph Nights on the 2025 calendar.

The Michigan Paving and Materials All-American Trucks lined up for their feature event first. In an unusual turn of events for the Tailgate Titans, Darren Burton was not the dominant force in the race. Mark Wilcox looked to be well on his way to his first victory of the 2025 season. Unfortunately after getting out to a huge lead, a late race caution would bunch the field up. Lady Luck would abandon Wilcox at this point, as he had a tire issue, which allowed Burton to get by on the restart, and go on to take his fourth straight victory in 2025. Wilcox had to settle for second, leading home Zane Cruz, Charles Hamilton, and Matt Wilcox. Josh Shaw and Mark Wilcox took heat race victories, while Mark Wilcox also was fast qualifier with a 17.973 (75.11MPH). Burton would claim the Hard Charger bonus.

The Aldermans Kubota Late Model Sportsman would have a dramatic 40-lap feature, that saw a car visit victory lane for the second time, but with a different driver behind the wheel! The race looked to be well in the hands of Brent Jack, as the opening night feature winner looked to be on track for his second win of the season. However, disaster would strike as Brent and his son Hunter Jack who was running second, would come together, ending Brent’s night and relegating Hunter to the back of the field. This would hand the lead over to third place runner Phil Bozell. The 2023 Champion of the Auto Value Parts Store Owosso 500 Series would hang on and take the victory. This was in the same car his Dad, Michigan Motorsports Hall of Famer Andy Bozell won in a few weeks prior. Nate Walton had a season high second place result over Brandon Barcus, Douglas Litogot, and Buddy Head. Heat races were won by Matt Mueller, Collin Barron, Tim Lahar, and Hunter Jack. Matt Mueller won the B Feature. Litogot was fast qualifier with a 15.399 (87.67 MPH). Buddy Head received Hard Charger honors.

The Meyer Electric Pure Stocks would be next up. Jordan Lechota was on another level on this night, having a dominant performance that is rarely seen in the Pure Stocks. Battles throughout the rest of the field were plentiful however, as the race was on for second place! Jim Miller Jr. would win out for runner up honors over Jason Spencer, Bryan Thompson, and Bill Livesay. Talen Diehl and Miller won heat races. Lechota was fast time with a 17.914 (75.36MPH). Lechota also earned Hard Charger honors.

The Spence Brothers Construction Street Stocks closed out the night with a barn burner of a feature. There would be intense racing and a lot of passing between the top runners. The aggressive action would eventually settle with Jake Thompson once again doing the “spin-and-win”! Thompson was spun near the midpoint of the race with Tim Lahar taking responsibility and going to the rear, letting Thompson take his position back. Thompson would go on to take the win, his second in a row. Gabe Carr had a best ever Owosso Speedway finish in second, over Scott Whetzel, Aaron Newman, and Kyle Callahan. Heat race wins went to Rob Sullivan, Chaz Taylor, and Gabe Carr. Tom Stone was fastest in qualifying, with a 16.020 (84.27MPH). Stone would elect to take the Kimball Midwest Challenge, in which he elects to start at the end of the field and if he were able to win he would have collected a $200 bonus. Unfortunately Stone was not able to finish the race, so the bonus rolls over to $300 and will be offered this Saturday. Hard Charger honors were shared by Michael Allemon and Stone.
