2 New Winners, 2 Repeat Winners, and Santa Highlight Christmas in July at Owosso Speedway
On a day the Owosso Speedway faithful helped make sure children in Shiawassee County would have a Merry Christmas, and Santa showed up to check in on all the good boys and girls, race fans came out for a great night of racing!
The Meyer Electric Pure Stocks would be the first feature event of the night. Talen Diehl, the reigning rookie of the year, would lead the opening handful of laps, before Hunter Doutre was able to wrestle the lead away. In the end it would be Jordan Lechota continuing his dominating streak with another victory after getting the lead away from Doutre. Lechota would try his best to run away from the field as he closed out his fourth victory of the season! Lonnie Saumier would settle for second with Doutre, Nick Johnston, and Jason Spencer completing the top five. Bill Livesay and Bryan Thompson claimed heat race wins with Lechota setting fast time with a 18.021 (74.91 Avg. MPH) second lap.
The Valley Truck Center Modifieds would be up next! They had a tough act to follow after a photo finish the week prior! Trevor Berry, who in his post-race interview said he came out for some research and development for the upcoming Midwest Modifieds Tour and Hot Shoe 100 events. However, he would instead be racing for victory! Berry would have the kitchen sink thrown at him by David McManus, but Berry would hang on to take the victory in his first start of the season. McManus settled for second over Aaron Taylor, Nick Clemens, and Ron Hart. Kyle Smith, Nick Clemens, Bill Luckhurst, and McManus took heat race wins. Berry was fast qualifier with a 15.300 (88.24 Avg. MPH) second lap.
The Aldermans Kubota Late Model Sportsman would have an anxious and exciting feature event. Brent Jack would take off from an outside front row starting spot. Brent Jack would hold the point negotiating lapped traffic, but two lapped cars would have a miscue, forcing Brent to take evasive action and dropping him back two positions. He would quickly get back up to second, but Brandon Barcus was tenacious in holding the top spot. Another caution would line them up next to each other, but Brent Jack would wrestle the lead back as he took his third feature win of the season. Barcus settled for second, with Tanner Jack, Hunter Jack, and JD Hancock completing the top five. Howard Kelley Jr., Cody Hawn, and Tanner Jack took heat race wins. Hunter Jack was fastest qualifier with a lap of 15.318 (88.13 Avg. MPH) second lap.
The final race of the night would be a barnburner of a Spence Brothers Construction Street Stock Feature! Kyle Callahan would lead the opening laps from pole position, until Kalamazoo Speedway regular Ricky LaDuke would snatch the lead away. LaDuke looked to be in good hands, however after a caution, Austin Maynard, who had just won the night before in Plymouth, Indiana, looked to make it a two-state two-day weekend sweep. He would overtake LaDuke, and work on trying to escape. Bobby Stremme would try to fight back to take his second straight victory, but Maynard was not to be denied, taking his first win this season at Owosso in his very first start. Stremme was second, with LaDuke, Gabe Carr, and Callahan completing the top five. Dusty Link and LaDuke would pick up heat race wins, with Gabe Carr setting the mark in qualifying with a 16.103 (83.13 Avg. MPH) second lap. Carr was presented with the Kimball Midwest Challenge, in which fastest qualifier for a randomly selected division can choose to start last in the feature, and if they win they will collect a rolling bonus. The pot was up to $400. Carr declined the challenge so it will roll over to $500 for this Wednesday.
