BAPS To Honor Hall of Fame Inductees from PA at World of Outlaw Show

YORK HAVEN, Pa.: Sprint Car racing is built on a rich history, and BAPS Motor Speedway, not only recognizes it, but wants to honor some of the sport’s legends.

A trio of heavy hitters from the central Pennsylvania region were inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 2025. To pay homage to these greats, speedway General Manager Kolten Gouse wanted to recognize them on a big stage.

The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series invades BAPS Motor Speedway for the Bricker’s French Fry Bash on Wednesday, July 23rd. On that same night, Gouse and his staff will honor mechanic Davey Brown Jr., engine builder Don Ott, and driver Todd Shaffer at opening ceremonies.

“I think it’s always important to remember the greats in any sport, especially Sprint Car racing,” Gouse said. “The sport is built on the backs of these guys, and it’s a pretty big honor to be inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame.

“We want to recognize the achievements of these three individuals and give them accolades in front of their hometown fans. It doesn’t get any bigger than when the World of Outlaws come to town, and Davey Brown Jr., Don Ott, and Todd Shaffer deserve to be on the same stage as the current stars of Sprint Car racing.”

The late Davey Brown Jr. was a mechanic in the 1980s, who was best known for his work on the Bob Weikert team that won over 50 races with Doug Wolfgang behind the wheel. He also won the National Open with Kramer Williamson, Lynn Paxton, Kenny Jacobs, and Don Kreitz Jr.

Don Ott is a legendary engine builder who built motors for such names as Fred Rahmer, Steve Kinser, Sammy Swindell, Terry McCarl, Lance Dewease, Stevie Smith, Jason Johnson, Greg Hodnett, Todd Shaffer, and other drivers around the country.

One of the most exciting drivers to ever come through central Pennsylvania was Todd Shaffer. He ripped off 196 feature wins and 13 track championships during his career. Five of those championships came at Port Royal Speedway, with four coming at Selinsgrove and three more at Williams Grove. Big wins came in the Tuscarora 50, the Sharon Nationals, Jack Gunn Memorial, and a World of Outlaws event at Selinsgrove.

“The list of accomplishments these three guys piled up is beyond impressive,” Gouse said. “They had a huge impact on the sport, and all of them are worthy of being inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame.

“We thought it was important to follow that lead and honor them for their enshrinement. These guys had great careers, and it only makes sense to add to that special time.”

Pit gates open for this event at 2 p.m., with grandstands opening at 5 p.m. Hot laps will begin at 6:30 p.m. with racing starting at 7:30.

Advanced reserve seating can be purchased before the event for $40. It’s $45 the day of the race. The top six rows in all sections are reserved. Advanced general admission is $35 before increasing to $40 the day of the race. General admission for children is $10.

Pit passes before the day of the race with a reserved seat are $50. Advanced pit passes with general admission are $45. Pit passes the day of the race are $50.
