FRIESEN AND SOBOTKA HAVE GOOD LUCK ON FRIDAY THE 13TH AT UTICA-ROME
VERNON, NY.....Wilcox Construction LLC and Tom Cole's Lexi LLC presented a full night of racing Friday night at Utica-Rome Speedway, with the A Verdi Storage Containers CRSA Sprint Cars joining the regular race program.
The 30-lap 3 Bastards Brewing Modified feature saw Justin Wright take the lead at the drop of the green as Willy Decker battled with Rocky Warner and Alex Yankowski, with 11th starter Stewart Freisen cracking the top five by lap 5. Warner used the outside groove to move past Decker and challenge Wright for the lead, but a slower car cost Warner a couple of spots and allowed Yaknowski to move into third as Decker shuffled back into second. Freisen moved past Yankowski for third on lap 15 as the lead pack began to work through lapped traffic. Freisen made another move on lap 18 for second and ran down Wright to take the lead on lap 21. Friesen pulled away as Yankowski closed in on Wright for second on lap 25 and they battled for the runnerup spot. Friesen took the win in the caution-free event, with Yankowski nipping Wright for second at the line. Decker and Matt Sheppard rounded out the top five.
3 Bastards Brewing Modified heats were won by Matt Sheppard and Willy Decker.
In the 25-lap A Verdi Storage Containers CRSA Sprint 'A' Main, Zach Sobotka was the early leader while Johnny Smith made some early moves to get into third by lap 4. Dalton Herrick and Scott Landers battled for position as Dillon Paddock and Billy VanInwegen joined the fight for positions at halfway. Sobotka continued to hold the lead over Darryl Ruggles in lapped traffic until the first yellow flew on lap 17 for a spin. VanInwegen took third on the restart as Sobotka pulled away. Paddock shuffled past Ruggles into second on lap 19 and closed in on Sobotka but didn't have enough to catcch him. Paddock, Ruggles, VanInwegen, and Bobby Parrow completed the top five.
A Verdi Storage Containers CRSA Sprint heats were won by Blake Warner, Darryl Ruggles, and Scott Landers. Dillon Paddock won the Dash event, while Emily VanInwegen captured the win in the 'B' Main.
The 25-lap Taylor's Trailers Crate 602 Sportsman feature saw Jeremy Slosek outdrag Connor Prokop for the lead with Mike Richmond, who had a nasty flip a few weeks ago, taking third. Slosek pulled out a lead over Prokop and Richmond as Payton Talbot began to charge through the top ten, challenging Ed Lukas for fifth, grabbing the spot on lap 12. The first caution flew for Dave Constantino's slowing car on lap 15, bunching the field for the restart. Richmond took second on the restart and pressured Slosek for the lead as Talbot moved into third. Rain began to fall under a lap 16 yellow for a multi car incident in turn four, and the race was declared official at that point.
Taylor's Trailers Crate Sportsman heats were won by Jeremy Slosek, Connor Prokop, and Mike Richmond.
In the 20-lap Next Generation Graphix Pro Stock feature, Ed Kotary jumped into the early lead, but two incidents on lap 2 involved contenders Andy Graves, AJ Walters, Shane Playford, and Devon Camengea. Jim Normoyle, who had contact in one of the lap 2 incidents, took the lead on the restart. Luke Horning moved into second past Bret Belden and chased after Normoyle. Horning battled Normoyle side by side for the lead, but the two had contact on the frontstretch and Normoyle lost a few spots. Devon Camengea snagged second and pressured Horning over the final two laps, with Horning holding off Camengea by a car length for the win.
Next Generation Graphix Pro Stock heats were won by Luke Horning and JIm Normoyle.
The Fastline Performance Limited Sportsman feature event had yet to run when the rains came and will be made up at a later date.
