April 27th - Jeep VanWormer Wins The 7th Annual Player Hater 50 To Kick Off the 2013 Season At Winston Speedway
Rothbury, Michigan (Saturday April 27th, 2013): After going through not one, but two cancelations for the 7th annual Integra Shocks/Spring Player Hater 50, the fans at Winston Speedway in Rothbury, MI were treated to a full night of racing as the Sunoco American Late Model Series paid a visit and were joined by the UMP Modifieds, Street Stocks, Factory Stocks / Bombers, Mini Stocks, Warriors and Young Guns for an action packed seven in one show.
The Young Guns saw 11-year-old Christopher Joyce get the huge victory. Trent Musk finished second, while Tony Taylor, Billy Frey, and Todd Ryan made up the rest of the top five. Phil Beets was the heat race winner.
The Warriors competed in their main event and it would be Nick Jenema getting the win. Harley Farkle would have to settle for second, Ray Geeting, Dave Lindsley, and Ron Vandermolen rounded out the top five. Rick Nic, Jenema and Kurtis Bennett won the heats.
In the Mini Stocks it was the defending UMP DIRTcar Eastern States, and 2011 track champion Paul Namey picking up the win. Brian Carson would finish as the runner up as Dave Avink, Rich Lieb, and Frank Bisacky rounded out the top five. The heats were taken by Namey and Avink.
Dennis Bringedahl made a trip to the winners circle as the winner of the Factory Stock / Bombers feature event. Defending track champion Josh Sternberg would finish second, 2011 track champion Robbie Sternberg was third, Nate Triick, and Rob Raugh capped off the top five spots. Bringedahl also won the heat race.
The Street Stocks would see Josh Frye cross the finish line first getting the win over Sadie Klein, two time track and defending UMP Northeastern states champion Dan Dykman, Chuck Smith, and Dozer Crane who all made up the rest of the top five. Derek Poland and Bill Brandt Jr., took the heat races.
The UMP Modifieds hit the track for their A-Main, and it would be Jacob Poel going home as the victor. Dona Marcoullier was second, David Mielke, two time & defending track champion Andy Sprague, and Ed Reyes rounded out the top five. The heats were won by Poel, John Hammerle and Jeff Erickson.
Finally, the UMP Super Late Models hit the fast 3/8ths (.375) of a mile for the running of the 7th annual Integra Shocks/Springs Player Hater 50 sanctioned by the Sunoco American Late Model Series which saw 30 drivers enter the pits ready to compete. When it was all said and done it was Jeep VanWormer going to the winners circle as the winner of the 2013 Player Hater. Rusty Schlenk would finish as the runner up, four time track champion Rich Neiser, Mike Spatola, and Andrew Reaume completed the top five. VanWormer, Spatola and Phil Ausra were the heat winners. J.R. Hotovy and Eric Spangler won the B-Mains.
Winston Speedway will be returning to their regular Friday Night schedule this Friday May 3rd. There will be a Full Program on hand with competition from the UMP Modifieds, Street Stocks, Factory Stocks / Bombers, Mini Stocks, Warriors and Young Guns. The UMP Super Late Models will have the night off. In addition there will be best appearing car contests for ALL racing divisions in action. Every Friday night, the Pit Gates Open at 4:00p.m. Grandstand Gates Open at 6:00p.m. Practice Starts at 6:30p.m., and Racing Begins at 7:30p.m.
