Schmuhl Eclipses Field at Gravity Park

Chilton, WI (June 21th, 2025) - After coming close so many times recently, everything went Hayden Schmuhl’s way as he picked up the win with the Midwest Legends Dirt Series at Gravity Park. The summer solstice was exactly what Schmuhl needed to walk away victorious on the night.

Twenty-one cars made the trip to the bullring on a great weathered Friday night. Both drivers who rolled at the last race two weeks prior, Adam Zellmer and Cal Swenson were both back, albeit a little bit roughed up. Two drivers pulled double duty, with Ryan Sullivan also in his street stock and Schmuhl also in his modified.

Three N&S Towing heat races were up first. Swenson had to defend from Ethan Ross, who was making a return to the dirt after almost two years gone, in the second spot. Rob Maule had a pretty uneventful race to finish in third.

Heat two saw a battle between Dallas Ross and Eric Blumer the majority of the race, with Ross the winner and Blumer second. Zellmer had to fight for the third spot, but was able to get it done.

The third heat of the night was won by Talyn Neuman after a battle with second place finisher Schmuhl. Tim Franz brought home the third spot in what he considers his home race.

The twenty-lap feature was up next with Dallas Ross starting on the pole and Eric Blumer starting second. Ross got the jump on the field and maintained the lead while Blumer and Schmuhl slotted in behind. Calamity struck for championship leader Zellmer struck as his #117 came to a slow stop on the front straightaway, ending his night early. Ethan Ross also ran into trouble at the same time, bringing out the yellow. Dallas brought the field back up to speed on the restart and was immediately brought under pressure from Blumer, who even pulled in front a few times to take the lead, but Ross would continue to hold the lead until two quick cautions brought the field back together. On the restart, Schmuhl, who had a quiet night up to the point, used a fast catfish line on the bottom to skirt past the #87 and take the lead. Schmuhl led with Blumer behind and Ross in third. It all looked set for Schmuhl to run away, but trouble for Neuman meant the driver in fifth place in the standings night would be over. Schmuhl continued to lead through the restarts and had only Blumer to deal with as the #6E looked for the lead, without finding success. The fight at the line was between Swenson, Sullivan, Alex Haese, Ross, and Connor Carey, who all went at it for the final podium spot the remaining laps, swapping the spots left and right numerous times.

Hayden Schmuhl drove off into the night to pick up his second feature win of the season, becoming the first repeat winner in 2025, after winning the non-points race at Luxy Raceway earlier in the season. Blumer brought home a respectable second-place and an overall good night. Swenson was able to jump into the third-place spot at the line, but unfortunately was found to have a technical infraction resulting in a disqualification. That meant Sullivan inherited third, with Haese and Ross bringing home fourth and fifth.

With Zellmer running into issues earlier in the race, that meant a shake up in the points was inevitable. Sullivan took over the championship lead with Zellmer falling to second. Schmuhl was able to close the gap to the top two, with Rob Maule taking the fourth spot and Ross jumping to fifth.

Schmuhl was given prizes from Rush Race Gear and Aero Race Wheels for the win. Faith Zellmer-Schultz picked up the Professional Plating and Rush Race Gear hard charger award, eleven spots. Mike Swenson won the HMS Motorsports award for his unfortunate twenty-first finish.

The Midwest Legends Dirt Series returns to Gravity Park once in July and once in August, for more action at the bullring. The series gets back to action this coming Sunday at Angell Park Speedway. A warm night is bound to bring out the MLDS for a massive national qualifier night you won’t want to miss!!
